One thing to look at is spend the money on a good saddle, get what works for you, Me I like the Brooks B-17 but there is a break in period but once it's broken in it fits like a glove. Specialized makes a few Body Geometry saddles that are good. Because nothing hurts worse than the old bum hurting after a hour or so in the saddle.

I've done 6 double centuries and they are similar to your 150 mile ride, though mine is a single day ride and your's a two day ride. I put together some of the things I learned to do when preparing for my double century.
Check out: http://www.linuxha.com/other/non-ha/...ongestDay.html When I did the first double century I trained like mad and thought I prepared for everything. I didn't, but I didn't let it bother me as trained the most important things. The first thing I did was to convince myself that I would fail. Once I had the confidence that I could do it, I could do it. Other's like me (and you) have done these rides so they are doable and you will be successful as long as you train and have confidence in yourself. I think the fist thing you'll find as you do the ride is that it's much easier than you thought. |
It is very feasible. The main question is are you willing to do the riding to get in good enough shape to handle it? Typically, the MS150 tends to attract less performance oriented riders (it probably depends on the area of the country) and you have some pretty slow riders out there. One would have to be trying pretty hard to be the last one in or even in the last group.
The main thing is get in aerobic shape, do regular aerobic workouts during the week (fast walks, fast treadmill, stair climbing, spin classes, cycling etc) and get some rides in of decent distance during the week end. Since the MS 150 has riding two days in a row, you would want to do some decent Sat & Sun rides to get used to that. It really is not that hard. You are pretty young too so you should be able to get in shape reasonably fast. |
Bunch of great advice here for outside observers -- thanks folks!
