anyone wanna help me figure out what i should bring?

I'm doing a 50 mile charity ride tomorrow, i have power bars a cliff bar cliff shot blocks and some packets of gu. I was going to bring bottles of water one being gatorade and 2 cliff bars and the shot blocks, do you guys think thats enough?

I was thinking of having half a power bar in the middle of the first hour then finish that in the second hour and have some shot blocks then have a full power bar in the 3rd hour (assuming it takes about 3 hours)

Would love some input.

That helps but I was curious do you think 2 powerbars is enough or should i have one for each hour, eating three power bars kinda feels excessive, maybe two power bars and one cliff bar? Or would I be better off packing the two power bars one for each of the last 2-2-1/2 hours and have a bag of almonds with dried apples for the first hour...choices choices.

All charity rides I've been on include support = rest stops = they'll have some food for you.

If they aren't providing food, or you think you might not be able to eat what they have, bring whatever you are used to, bring a little too much of it, you don't have to eat it all.

Don't make big diet changes if the event is a long one for you. Eat what you are used to.

If it was me, and they didn't provide anything, I would bring 2 gus, a granola bar, one water bottle and one bottle with cytomax in it. But that is what works for ME. Gatorade and cliff bars are not things that work for ME but if they work for YOU, then that's what you should take.

Oh, and if they do have food stops, don't overeat. I used to overeat all the time on centuries. Just a little at a time is good. I think they say 300 calories an hour is the most you can process.

I hope you have nice weather and have fun and meet some nice riders!

I think I'm going to bring my bottle of gatorade and 2 power bars and 1 cliff bar and we'll see how that goes. I think gu and shotblocks would be excessive between the bars and the gatorade that should be enough electrolytes no?

Bring whatever it takes to consume 250 calories per hour.

Personally, I wouldn't touch either the PowerBars or the Clif bars to get my 250 calories per hour, but that's just my preference.

Try to eat about 500 calories before you go too ... breakfast cereal, toast, poptarts, Ensure, bananas, waffles, or whatever strikes your fancy .... but nothing too unusual for you.

No closer than 3 hours out either, e.g. eat a 7am for a 10am start.

Don't overanalyze, if done at a moderate pace you're probably only looking at 1600-2000 calories total burnt. The average man stores 1500ish calories of glycogen. That plus your breakfast would reasonably carry you through the end of the ride on water alone, although you'd possibly be a bit bonked at the end. Eating too much is a surefire way to have a bad time. A bottle of gatorade, two of water, and a bar or two would work out fine. I'd save the third bar to eat at the end of the ride to help replenish glycogen stores.

A few bananas, a bottle of sugary water (non-carbonated soft drinks), a bar of chocolate or something like that.

It shouldn't be a whole lot longer than a 3hr ride if you go at a moderate pace, whenever I do 50ish miles I generally bring 1 power bar, 2 gels, 1 bottle of a strong mix of Gatorade (like 1 scoop and 1/4 in a bottle) and when I've drank half of it I'll fill it up with water again at one of the fountains in the trail I ride.

Only reason I'm concerned is because I'm just getting over a cold so I might have to do it at a slower pace and my body might bonk easier, I don't know.

For 50 miles, I'd take a couple water bottles and eat some provided snacks at one or two of the rest stops.

Well I completed the ride very strong and felt pretty good, I ended up having a serving of whole grain pretzls then 1.5 cliff bars and a fix square and a orange slice at a pit stop. I finished in 2 hours and 50 minutes. I had the pretzl's in the 1st hour the power bar in the second and then the half of the other power bar in the last 50 minutes, probably could have done without that half power bar.
