movie recommendations for indoor training

I'm new to indoor training. I fear it's going to get boring pretty fast.

On the trainer this weekend, I watched "Serenity"--a perfect trainer movie: exactly 2 hours long, with lots of action and humor.

Can any of you recommend some longish, interesting, distracting movies to watch for low-heart-rate base building on the trainer?

I find that certain TV shows work well for me. I'll watch old TV shows like la Femme Nikita, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Andromeda, and Dark Angel. They're about 45 minutes long on DVD, so I can watch several back-to-back, and if I get my trainer time and I"m partway through something, I'll stretch during the rest of the episode. If you liked Serenity, you really should check out Firefly if you haven't already seen it.

I just recently finished Snatch. I find that more action, less dialogue is better so I don't have to crank up the volume so loud.

I just finished the first season of "Heroes"; 43 min each ~10 min warm up/cool down = 60 or 120 min workout.

Lately I've been liking war movies. Full Metal Jacket is just south of 2 hours, and Saving Private Ryan is around 2:45. I found both to be equally motivating.

I am so going to regret admitting this in public, but when I ride my spin bike at home I watch college lectures on DVD. There's a company called the Teaching Company that sells lecture series on a whole range of subjects, so today rather then sweating to the oldies I was sweating to basic economics. If I get bored I just try to picture the professor in gaudy lyra spinning along with me. Hey, to each his own.

This isn't really a bad idea. I've tried thinking of ways to study but I always imagined it not working very well. Maybe I just have bad concentration.

Thanks, everyone, for your recommendations. I'm going through the Firefly series right now, then on to some of your movie recommendations.

yesterday I did 90 min (30 min tempo, 5x5 indoor "climbs") and I did it without any distractions (music/videos). I came to the realization that every now and again it is important to train your mind to see past the suffering (especially the mild kind) and focus on form, posture and all the little muscle memory routines. It was very...zen.

I did a century that I called " The Bourne Century +" in the clydesdale forum. I watched all three and did about 115 miles during the movies.

Just an idea.

I'm working the entire Monty Python's Flying Circus TV show DVD collection right now. I started at disk 1 and will go thru the entire set this winter.

Hi,
I do the same thing.... this really boils down to what you like. I also own Firefly,
great series, shame they killed it.

There are lots of TV series available on DVD. Deep Discount.com had The Adventures of Brisco County Jr for $25 which was a wonderful buy for me.
It's a quirky Western, like Firefly. It even has occasional bits of scifi. But mostly it's a Western.

One of things I do is hit Walmart regularly. They have lots of movies for 5-15 bucks and some boxed sets as well. I have gotten the Mummy box, the Predator
box, and soon the Riddick Chronicles. These are not great movies, but they have action and that helps me keep the legs pumping.

Have you tried Spinervals?

I like Deadwood, it has a fast enough pace to keep you occupied and it is one long story so if you only watch while on your trainer it will get you back to the trainer more often to see what happens next. Family Guy is also fast paced, but shorter episodes for those quick workouts (If you like PG-13 type cartoons).
I also love to watch documentaries on things that I find interesting. Channels like A&E, Discovery, History, Learning, National Geographic , the list goes on. I use the commercials as a time to drop gears and cadence while drinking some water then when the show comes back on its time to pump it back up.
