Nooby needs advice on commute...

Hi guys, I am completely new to the forum and I have been trying to catch up on the readings here. (Quite active forum)

I have been riding on average of 50-150miles per week for the last 1.5 years. Recently, starting at feb of this year I started to commute on tuesday and thursday every week. I also started to lift weights on monday and wednesday. My commute is a 27miles one way ride with a 1200ft elevation gain that all comes near the last 5 miles of the ride (6%-11%). It takes me about 1hour and 40 min to complete. It takes about 1 hour and 10 to get to the top of the climb which is about 15miles into the ride.

Just recently I felt very tired during the commute. I sometimes have to shift down to granny gears earlier in the ride to save my legs. My goal is to establish a good base and try for a century this year. Secondary goal is to loose some weight and gain some muscle.

So here is my issue... just this past 2 weeks i have been feeling very tired. And I can't seem to push my hr back to the levels in feb. I was able to do 40min in zone 4 and about 15min in zone 5. Now I am only capable of doing 50min in zone 4 and 6 min in zone 5. And today, I could barely get out of saddle to do a short hard effort on a small hill. Out of saddle efforts has been really hard recently. My leg seems to feel the pain sooner.

What I am doing wrong? I thought I should be getting a little stronger and climb that hill faster and have longer endurance during a out of saddle effort... But it's a bit opposite. Should I be hitting harder climbs? or back off and rest? Why is my hearbeat "ceiling" tapping off?

Thanks for reading and any reply can help.
