N00b needs help! Just a few questions.

Howdy all. I have what will seem like some very newbie questions.

1) Over the past month I am really getting into biking. I have been riding six days a week. Some days I ride twice in a day if I feel like I didn't work hard enough on the first ride.

So my question is this... Is it okay to ride five/six days in a row without a day of rest in between? My legs do get soar throughout the week, but I usually ride right through that. Is it hurting the development of muscle I may be building? I know in weight lifting you should NEVER work the same body part two days in a row. Is it different for cycling? I don't want to hinder my progress but I found that I am starting to get antsy/cranky if I don't ride that day.

Any tips, suggestions, or flaming is welcome.

you can ride like that but say day 3 and 5 should be recovery rides, alot slower rides without any hard efforts.

While it is great to ride every day, your body does need at least one day off of the bike. Also, you need to break up your ride schedule such that one day is good for base miles, the next is hill work and then some interval training. That way you are using different muscles of the body. Riding does get addicting but keep a balance. Good luck!

I actually just had a similar question and got great feedback about the issue from fellow members. Heres the link, might answer some questionshttp://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=422172

I like the idea, the problem is I'm somewhat limited to where I like to ride. I live in a pretty populated area, and the drivers are not really the best around here. So what I have been doing is taking the same ride everyday. I do some street work but the majority of the ride takes place in three different cemeteries.

The cemeteries have lots of hills and I use the flat land as a slower ride to recover from going up steep hills.

Maybe I should incorporate a day of extensive riding on flat ground and avoid the hills? The one problem I have is because I ride in a cemetery I have no way to track how many miles I do. I set a goal to do the same ride everyday. So day one I said 55 minutes, day two I said 52 minutes, day three I said 50 minutes, day four I said 45 minutes. I think once I bust out the ride in 45 minutes, I will add another lap.

Man, I am just realizing how little I actually know about this stuff. Of course any suggestions/criticisms are welcome. And a big thanks to everyone who already answered.
