Post ride Summer smoothie!
This always does the trick for me after a nice Summer ride. :thumb:
Anyone have any post ride smoothies they would like to share? |
Sure,
-Cup of OJ -scoop of whey protein powder (I use Whole Foods brand) -Some vanilla non-fat yogurt -banana -cup of frozen berries (usually blue berries) -1/4 teaspoon of matcha powder I like to freeze it with frozen berries instead of adding ice. Matcha is a green tea powder that adds anti-oxidants and some caffeine. |
What flavour whey protein do you use for your smoothies? Vanilla?
I've always purchased chocolate, but my current one is almost empty. Wondering if i should go the 'other' route this time :) |

Usually a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice is plenty to fill me over. Sometimes i'll blend fresh strawberries. and if i'm feeling rich also some blackberries, blueberries, rasberries and i top it off with a scoop of honey. I also don't freeze the fruit, i find frozen fruit lacks the POW factor of taste that fresh fruit has. if i want it cold i'll just blend some ice with the mixture.
Good stuff. |
I fancy myself the smoothie king-- always trying to come up with something different and wonderful.
My most basic smoothie probably isn't too far off the beaten path of normal experience for people here: 1 banana Large handful of frozen strawberries Small handful of frozen blueberries Two tablespoons of vanilla lowfat yogurt Healthy dash of grapefruit juice Dash of pomegranate/blueberry juice And when I've really earned it-- a scoop or two of Endurox Now to make it interesting... Taper back on some of the strawberries and blueberries and substitute a half a can of peaches, mango or apricots (apricots provide a delectable richness). On hotter days, I'll opt for the refreshing properties of a small can of pineapple instead. I've added peanut butter to my smoothies-- surprisingly good. And whenever possible, I'll take what's left in my coffee pot (usually a quarter to a half a cup), and add that. A tablespoon of instant coco can be nice depending on what else is going on in the blender. Until recently, I was fond of (only occasionally) adding a bit of rum to my smoothies, but I've become so much more committed to this hobby as a sport that I've stricken alcohol from my life altogether. Still though-- a post-ride endorphin buzz can be seriously enhanced by a good rum smoothie! |
I have been drinking smoothies for breakfast. My latest thing is to add more vegetables to the fruit mixture. The green leafy mostly. I have tried Romaine lettuce, Bok choy, Mustard greens, Spinach, and even Cucumbers (pealed).
Raw fruit, raw vegetables, a great combination. Some of these green leafy vegetables have more potassium than the banana. Green leafy, I think is cheaper than bananas. If you go to Costco, you might find a 3 pound container of dates that are pitted. Problem is that 3 lbs of dates is a whole lot of dates. I like the web site http://www.nutritiondata.com/ It has a lot of information about the types of foods and its ratings. There's even an inflamation factor. |
Try this one (though I think lots of people know about it):
- 4 or 5 strawberries, - 1 or 1.5 bananas, sliced - Cup of ice - Whole or 2% milk - Scoop of vanilla ice cream or yogurt - Sugar (amount is adjustable; I usually put a lot) - Optional: A scoop of Whey Protein or recovery powder of your choice Place items in a blender, put it in blend mode and enjoy. |
pretty much same as everyone
-1scoop ON gold standard protein -1 scoop sorbet, usually orange -bananas, berries or any other fruit i have -ice -orange pineapple juice. i usually drink it right after while im preparing a meal which i eat right after. somtimes i will make 2 shakes one to drink while i prepare a meal and one to drink with the meal. |

Au naturale.
I stay away from powdered stuff. Even smoothies have a "wrongness" to it. Fruits and veggies I think are meant to be eaten, not drink. don't get me wrong, I still drink smoothies. Tasty, efficient way to mix fruits with mineral rich green leafy veggies. |
