Calorie rant

Everything is so damn packed with calories. Went in to presentation today they had pizza and cookies. I thought I did good only had three slices of pizza (pretty small slices on very thin crust) and two cookies. Much much less then the rest of the folks. After calculations it came out to about 1000 calories. Assuming I didn't under estimate on cookies. Their diameter was about middle finger length (almonds/pecan cookie, and chocolate chip cookie). :notamused: Worst part I am still hungry! Somehow I manage to cram more food in, and feel fool when I cook food. Every time I go out or have free dinners it seems like I have to have 1/3 my usual portions, and I still get more calories! heh. Damn I should start avoiding these free lunches.

Yeah, it's amazing how calorie dense some of those foods are. It's so easy to think "oh I don't have room for that healthy food" (which happens to be 200 calories) but then you eat a few cookies instead and they don't even fill you up, but a few cookies could be 600 calories. What a crazy, mixed up world :)

Crackers are the worst.

eh, just ride more. don't bother counting calories - not a happy way to live.

sad. here people try to restrict the amount of food they consume. others elsewhere can't get enough...

Very true. Eat more, and you'll be able to ride A LOT harder. Nothing worse than bonking.

200+ miles a week between racing, training and commuting, I don't really have time to ride more. ;) That said yeah you are right. Counting calories is not a happy way to live. I am getting better at it thought. I have a tendency to be on OC side.

Yet another piece of evidence indicating the purely mythical nature of that beast. One of the modern realities is that calories are cheap but good nutrition is still expensive by comparison. In this environment, it takes substantial self discipline to make the best choices. Come to think of it, BF provides a supportive community for that challenge.

I tried this and I lost an initial 10 lbs and flatlined for 6 weeks. Then I started counting calories and I lost another 10 lbs in 3 weeks. If you are trying to lose weight, then counting calories is a good thing. I'm not dieting nor am I on a diet, but I do count calories, so I'm very careful about what i eat. If I splurge then I ride more.

Find a system that works for you and stick with it. Also get the book, "eat this nor that" and it will show you how to cut calories while eating out.

You can get a Double Cheeseburger and small fries from McDonalds and only consume about 450 calories for lunch and it costs you a tad over $2. Add a bottled water and you don't waste calories with soda.

i suppose it also depends on who you are, and how your body works. i have a really fast metabolism. if i'm hungry, i literally start to get chills.

i'm not as intense as other riders here, but i do bike often enough. i cut lawns for summer job, and i used to do weight lifting while attending school. during weeks like that i'd consume between 4000 - 5500kcal a day. i'm 5'8", weigh 125lbs now (lost weight from stopping the weight lifting). counting calories seems pointless to me, but i'm sure it's a big deal for those with slower metabolisms.

That would be me. lol. I am pretty sure turtle has faster metabolism then me. :( Sad thing is I am in my mid 20's so it just going to go down hill from here.
