Training Suggestion Update.
I just want to let everyone know, that its my 4th day of bicycling. (Mountain/Trail) :D For now Im riding in a small grassy field behind my home. I started out with 3 very hard for me laps, the hills are killer. I ride 2 laps then a quick breather continue my biking. Today I rode 2 laps then a breather 2 more laps quick breather, etc. Then Rode up a steeper hill to my home. I was so out of breath.....
Whats funny is that I have new friends. An 11 yr old nephew that blows me away  and my two dogs follow me the entire time Im riding. Thanks for all of the help and I look forward to getting to know you guys and gals. :) Ps, When I work my way up to 10 laps Im going to a local "Rails to Trails" there are a few riders there and alot of people to meet (ladies). ;) |
Good job. Stay with it.
|
Added 1 more lap total 5 laps. And this time I wasnt as winded or out of breath.
|
Took my first road trip today. I took a 2 mile ride at speeds up to 5-20 mph in a total of 11min 47sec. I know some of you guys can do better. But Im a beginner and I bought the wrong bike for road use (MT bike). Anyways I now know why the reason that you guys recommend Hamstring training.
Ps I never as a kid remember biking to be so hard. ;) :) |
My suggestion would be to slow down and stay on the bike longer. Find whatever pace you can keep up for 30 minutes to an hour, even if it's under 10 mph. Then slowly pick up speed the more you do it.
It's easier that way than riding fast and short and trying to add distance each ride. |
Get a heart rate monitor and a cadence meter. Raise your cadence to 90-110 and watch your heart rate. Keep riding and easy on the hills.
|
Ok, Thanks.

Wasnt that bad today. Legs were a little tired and shakey but breath was fine. 2.1. miles.
|
Hi all, I have beensick the past couple of days. And I couldnt get out and ride. I began again today. Here's the report. Remember that Im still a beginner.;)
3.1 miles and a little more scenery 20 mins 19 sec. average speed 9.4 mph Max speed 20.1 estimated calories burn 160 Heart rate and breath were fine. There was little or no coasting, all pedeling. :D |
Up to 4 mile bike rides. Average speed is still around 9 mph. Heart rate and breathing still fine. Just the legs give out quick. Still no coasting all pedaling. Burning over 200 plus calories now. ;)
|
Don't worry about your average speed, especially on trails. Buy one of the cheapo hr monitors, you can get one for $40 from one of the catalogs. Use it as a training tool and build endurance. Good luck...

Ok Thanks.

I know that this doesnt seem like much to alot of you. But Im now riding 5 miles in 30 mins. I hear that this is good progress. Started around Jan 12 and very out of shape. Remember Im sort of overweight with health problems but Im working on that. (Bike Riding) ;) I ride antwhere from 3-4 days now and also do exercises like push ups and squats, etc, etc. I thank you that have given me tips and kept me going. God Bless You All.

Welcome! Starting off biking is an amazing thing; you'll find huge improvements will come very quickly and easily. A few years from now it's going to take a much greater effort to see an increase in speed/distance... so enjoy the "boom" while it lasts. ;)

Ok Thanks. ;)
