Water tasting like plastic? Solution!
 

I have found a solution to get rid of that plastic taste in water bottles. It was in my moms "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine. It said to take 2 tablespoons of baking soda, and 2 cups of cheap vinegar. Now, just a quick warning, when you mix the two together, it will resemble a science fair volcano. Close it up, shake it, and pour out. Rinse it well with hot water, and you should get that taste out.

I bought a water bottle made by Arctic Zone from Totes, and it had a strong taste of plastic in the water. I used that method and now my water tastes like water. Couldn't have been more happy. Hope this works for all of you.

If your bottle tastes like plastic... you might try to get a better bottle. I bought a Camelpak Podium BPA Free bottle and there's no taste in water. Some sport drinks leave a smell, but it doesn't seem to seep into the water.

i have that same podium bottle, i had to wash it a cuple times, kuz i washed it ounce then tried it on a ride and my water didnt taste exactly like water, washed it a couple more times then it was straight, havent had any problems with it since. An this is great i just recieved this book on natural ways to clean and such and im pretty sure any of the ingredients under deodorizer would get rid of plastic taste also. Borax, bakign soda, Lavender oil, tea tree oil. Not sure but you guys might try it heh.

I do that (baking soda + vinegar) on all new bottles to make sure they're fresh. Works like a charm.

Camping/survival/all-in-one book hinted to use a sprinkle of baking soda when storing bottles so they won't smell bad/mildew. <3 baking soda!!!

Good tips, But this does not always work according to us, we should avoid plastic bottle and use BPA Free bottle for healthy life.

that recipe would be good for gout too!

I like adding a squeeze of lemon juice, even tho I don't notice a plastic taste w/o it

But mixing vinegar and baking soda creates more scary sounding chemicals -- carbonic acid and sodium acetate!

And the effects don't stop there. Even after emptying those new scary chemicals, no matter how much you try to clean and dry the bottle, it's now filled with contaminants like nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide and oxygen.

Do you mean Camelbak? I have a used one that seems to be clean enough but I'm not sure about the taste and I don't really like the nozzle design and would swap out a regular one if I could. I'm just keeping water in me on hot days so the insulated part isn't as important, I'll empty it in short order.

PS I have three or four other bottles.

No kidding. But dihydrogen monoxide is the worst of them all.

6 x 22oz BPA free @ $16 just arrived today. I smell nothing.
In the past I've used a bit of bleach and hot water over night then just rinsed them out good.

For water bladders like Camelback, a few denture cleansing tablets over night will work a treat.

I use Klean Kanteen stainless steel bottles. Stuff from them tastes good. I can't stand plastic bottles any more.

I"ve got the same bottles here...no problems either

Bought 6x22oz BPA free bottles branded BE 50 STRONG from amazon for $16.
Slight smell when new. Filled one with bottled water, after setting three days no strange taste.
I have no connection with any brand.. These are made in the USA and come in several colors.

Pack 4 as liquid, freeze 2 to keep my samiches and sliced fruit cool.
