Would your suggest push-ups everyday?

Hey guys,
I try to lift weights 3 times a week, but usally only end up going twice. I have been hearing a lot from doctors and stuff that we should try to walk/jog everyday (and i do that, i work in a parking garage, i walk TONS) and do sit-ups and push-ups everyday. I would love to do that but I thought we were suppose to let our bodies rest sometime. I would love to rep out 20-30 push-ups, they would help with my mountain biking...just seein if it was ok to that everyday?

I do 100 pushups every 2-3 days a week. Works for me.

even the little things count...i do 5 sets of 10 3x a week and will start to increase slowly. i do it till my last set kills my muscles.

Just listen to your body. You can't work out hard every day, but you can vary what you do, i.e. different muscle groups. There is no substitute for a day of rest. Try to keep a record of what exercise you're doing, sets & reps. When your reps drop, you need a day of rest. Don't push till it hurts, tendonitis/strains can occur when muscles are fatigued. I do sit-ups and push-ups most every night, but not a killer set, just enough to keep the tightness. It's a good feeling, keep it up!

Sit ups and push ups are good to do, and since they are not load bearing like weight training, you don't need the rest. If you start from 0 and go to 100, then you might, but if you are at a decent level, then it is only good for you (assuming there is no pain).

I dont like pushups, becuase for some reason they make my pecs kinda asymmetrical. The lower right pec gets bigger, and the upper left pec gets bigger and gets a bit wider...weird, eh? I'm thinking its a problem with my form...but I'm not sure how to fix it.

I can tell you in bootcamp you don't get to rest. But now, if my chest is sore the next day I'll wait till I feel better.

I lift weights too, bench and incline. I just feel like i have hit a plateau and i want to break out of it. I heard pushups was a good excersie because it uses your body weight, but i was just curious if it was cool everyday. I guess im the only one who knows that lol

Push ups are a really fast response to spending hours at a gym to make some stab at upper body strength and firmness. Nice not to be saggy.
I still have problems as a result of shoulder surgery(shoulder cuff) last year. Arm agility is slow to come back...Wish I could I would..Maybe some time soon.
A push up I would fall on my face. Sure liked the looks of my jerseys better, when I was able to do push ups. I used to do 25 in the morning and in the evening.

Depending on your fitness level push-ups may or may not be OK to do daily. Basically, resistance training works by causing tiny tears in you muscles. then, as your body recovers, the musles are rebuilt stronger and maybe larger. Granted, there are alot of other factors ive left out (genetics, metabolism, nutrition etc), but if the exercise is heavy enough to start this break-down/build-up cycle, then you should allow 48-72 hours of recovery between sessions on the same muscle group. however, if the weight is so light that all your reps are easy, then you arent causing these muscle tears and the workout is becoming more of an aerobic workout than a resistance workout, and less recovery time is needed (24-48hrs, your body will tell you :) ). you need to evaluate 1)what your goals are (lose weight, get stronger, get faster as a cyclist, etc) and 2) know how hard the exercises are for you. If you want to be getting stronger in the chest, push-ups can be good exercises if you arent already so strong that your body's weight isnt enough, but then you need to have recovery time. if you want to use them more as a maintenance or general workout exercise, then the recovery days are less necessary.
