Computer on a stationary setup.
hello,
After a very nice first 1/2 of fall in the NW, it's become obvious that the natural weather trends for this time of year has taken grip and I need to get back into my indoor training if I'm going to stay in any sort of cycling shape for the next few months.
I have the necessary hardware for the job. My cycleops stand, a worthy bike for the challenge and some entertainment to keep from getting too darn bored.
One item that I've never been satisfied with is my computer setup. Since the computers on my road bikes are of the front wireless sensor variety (e.g., convenient), using these while on a trainer pretty much renders any information coming off of the rear wheel unavailable. As such, I've been using an hrm exclusively for tracking my workouts. This has been working fine, but I'm a data hound and want more!
While I could help the economy by purchasing a Powertap, or some other such device, I need to feed my family too. I'm thinking maybe just going with a cadence sensor might be the answer, but I'd be happier with # of miles and such too. I prefer wireless, but the sensors I've found only work on the front wheel since transmission distance is an issue. Anyone have some reasonably affordable yet not too geeky solutions to offer for this?
thanks,
Karl "Trying to lessen the geek in me" K.

Use a computer with wires ... this will also help prevent interference with things like the TV.
If you're going to use a wireless computer, put the monitor in your waterbottle cage. That way it will be close enough to pick up the signal.

This is a question that I also am curious about the answer. Since my trainer is on it's way (elite fluid alu), I'd like a way to track my progression also. The computer I am interested it would be a Polar branded unit (200 or 400 possibly, not sure which one yet). I would like to get both heartrate and mileage out of it while on the trainer, but was wondering if it is possible to mount the polar computer sensor on the rear wheel, with the computer unit on the handlebars and still receive the signal. Does anyone have a similar setup?
Thanks
