Snickers Marathon bars

I like the taste, not as bland as powerbars, at about the same price. But I wonder how they would hold up during a long ride...I usually eat one for breakfast and a snack throughout my day. Anyone eat these on longer rides? if so, how did they work out?

I tried one a couple of rides ago. Bottom Line: A very expensive candy bar... almost akin to a Watchamacallit. The thing's also got a lot of fat compared to other energy bars. And although I like Watchamacallits and Snickers bars in general, I can't stomache them on a ride. Mine wasn't all melty since I had it in my CamelBak (it was a MTB ride) but it was rather soft and a little squishy. I suspect that had I stored it in my jersey pockets on a road ride that it would have been a mess. My advice is to save your $1.59 and get something else. If you want a candy bar then cheaper ones can be had which taste better.

I don't think they will ever go over here in FL. I took one on a ride and it was a melted chocolate mess when I opened it up.

I fugured as much. I just use them for a little kick on m short bursts of two miles or so around campus. They don't really do much for me, but they do taste better than Powerbars. Im lookin for energy, not flavor though...

My favourite energy bar is the You Are What You Eat bars. They're not messy and they taste relatively good... A little bit dry but what energy bar isn't like that? Be sure you have water handy. My only complaint with them is that I have to buy them in boxes of 20 and they come in limited selection. I like the peanut butter best and the chocolate fudge next. I didn't really like the apple cinnamon and haven't yet tried the blueberry almond.

This is just snickers trying to cash in on the health craze. I looked at the fat content on this bar, and it's actually less fat for some of the normal candy bars out there on the market over the snickers. Sooooooooo... if you don't care about fat (and I mean saturated fat, which is the bad fat), then go for it. But if you're counting your fat grams, and you're working on shaving off fat, and you want an energy bar that's going to give you energy without the extra fat, choose a better option, like a powerbar.

I prefer Tootsie Rolls on my longer rides. Cheaper than Power Bars, tastier (IMO), low fat, don't melt, and available at most convenience stores.

Hmm... I have a ton of old tootsie rolls. I might try that. I think they're like two years old though. Have to nuke them for 15 seconds on high to soften them up a bit. You think the heat from them sitting in the back pocket of my jersey might be enough?

I split one w/ my s/o on a ride about two months ago, and I did not think it really was any different from just eating a candy bar. Personally, I'd rather a bowl of cereal and some banana's or a bagel or something before a ride. Though it did taste exactly like a Snicker bar.

For me personally i think the bar is a bit too sweet. How are you[ya'll] handling the extra sugars from the tootsie rolls and the snickers bar? i prefer to keep the sugars to a minimum and focus on other natural stuff (natural sugars from oranges and bananas), my cliff bars and gels for energy.

btw the snickers bar is just like the 'original' on taste. i'd rather have a 3musk, or butterfinger if im going to eat a candy bar... :yum:

I switched back to powerbars, the snickers were not serving up the energy I was looking for, and like everyone said, they got all melty and sick.

Powerbars!!!! Constiuency of cardboard, Sacharin taste(When you get throught to it) Take for ever to chew. Depending on where you are placed, the only good thing they do is produce methane. Cereal bars are my choice, or fruit cake, or Fig Rolls or a good hearty Full English Breakfast. Anything except powerbars.

Granted eating Powerbars feels like you've reached down and peeled off a section of the roadway to chew on but they're better than nothing and at this point, they're almost universally available. I generally don't carry them myself. Read up a few posts to see which ones I use.

Does anyone have a cereal bar they recommend (not the crap with the fruity paste in the middle) they could recommend? I'm totally going Wal-mart on this tomorrow, and I would love to have an idea of where to go. Whatever suggested needs to be able to last through lots of heat, since I'll be using them when I do my long rides this summer.

Thanks!

In the UK, we used to have Marathon bars, but then some marketing suit renamed them to Snickers.
I hope your not cycling on these sugar and peanut comestibles. I only resort to them at small village grocery stores, usually way past their "sell-by" date.

They're probably not the same... and yet they kinda are. The Marathon bars just being marketted here are being sold as energy bars even though they're really nothing more than rebadged candy bars. The best description I can give of them is what you'd get if you crossed a Luna women's nutrition bar with a Snickers candy bar and added a lot of caramel then coated the top with a thick layer of chocolate.

Yes! The Kellogs Nutri- Grain Elevenses. They have been tested in a U.K.Magazine and came out tops for taste and energy levels, possibly higher in fat than SOME of the Sports bars, but I Like them. Failing that, I take a bag of Mixed fruit with me, and this helps aswell.

Do a search for my No-Bake Homemade Energy Bars.

They are cheap, easy to make and don't melt. Just remember to mix it very well so they hold together.

Thanks for the response- I've already been to Walmart before I saw this, so I'll keep it in my future to-do list. My concern is for my touring when I'll be doing long rides every day. I'm afraid I may come across some situations where I can't get to a store or restaurant and bonk somewhere on the side of the road. In that case, I'll definitely want an energy bar, and probably something a little higher in fat than the other sports bar... just not that snickers crap. I think snickers needs a message sent to them that they can't repackage their candy bars and sneak them through as a sports bar. That's pure lunacy.

Thanks for the tip!

Koffee

I tried one of those today, it was way too sweat, just like a regular snickers, all they did was take a regular snickers, put MORE caramel on it, squished it flat, and put protein in it.
It was god awful hard to chew even after being in my back pocket in the sun for 2 hours. Hurts my jaw.
