peaking for a race

I am in a bit of a mess with my training plans. I do the friel workouts, 3 weeks building up, then a week of recovery. Today is the finish of my third week, this coming week is a recovery week.

I am trying to get myself ready to taper for a race on April 18. However, if I follow my current routine, I will be at the end of my cycle again, and ready for a recovery week when I want to do that race. At the end of these cycles I am too tired to race well.

I was thinking of taking two weeks of recovery and then doing two weeks of my cycle, which is where I feel best. Will two weeks of recovery hurt my training?

Thoughts and opinions are appreciated.
