Numb feet

The other day while riding at a moderate pace i noticed that my feet were semi numb from the balls of my feet onward. I flexed my feet for a few secs and within a minute or so i got the feeling back. Has anyone experienced this?

Yeah I actually have as well. For me it happens towards the begining of the ride and then slowly goes away. Maybe it's because your not warmed up or something. I've even gotten new shoes and it still happens. So I'm kinda curious about this as well

It could be shoe fit, or just tight shoes. I wear pretty naturally snug Sidi's and have had the problem occasionally. Snugging up before the ride seems to wind up a little too tight after 10 miles or so, so I loosen them and usually don't have any problems thereafter. 60 miles Sunday, and I was almost home before I realized I hadn't thought about my feet for the last half of the ride.

You may want to try the heat moldable insoles. I have a pair of low end Shimano shoe's
and it made a huge difference. I don't have to cinch them down as tight to get my feet
to stay put. And no more numb feet.

tight shoes

could also be tension in your feet - move your toes around every 20 minutes or so.

This is a problem? My right foot is numb whether it is in a cylcing shoe or not...

Also had this problem, usually only after 60 or so miles. There was a thread about this on the LD forum. Some had good luck just moving their cleats back. Others said it was a problem with certain shoes which develop or are built with a hollow above the cleats. This hollow causes the nerves in the center of the ball of the foot to become pinched. If this is the problem, some suggest that it can be improved by building up the center of the sole of the shoe in that area, but very slightly. One person had very good results with this approach on PBP.

I have Sidis, and I just wiggle my toes.

I get the same thing. It is always my left foot. It is never my right foot. I unclick at lights with my right foot and I think that variation prevents me having problems with the right foot. I only get sore feet on longer rides by the way. And only then if I am mashing the gears vs spinning.

I have heard that the problem is the same as hand soreness. It is actually an irritation of the nerves in the feet. One wears padded gloves to prevent the problem with your hands. I would think that decent foot inserts would offer some protection with the feet. It is just an occaisonal thing for me so I have not tried inserts.
