Carb farts?
This is kinda embarrassing... at first, I noticed that during and after long rides in the saddle, I would get the toots. Big rippers. :eek: I considered my diet on these rides and concluded that Gatorade gave me gas. Then I went out on a long ride without a carb-laced drink and, lo, I STILL got the toots. So I'm thinking it's not so much the Gatorade as it is the carbohydrate in it. Perhaps it's got something to do with how I metabolize the carbs. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes! I use to have the same problem when I ate a big bowl and rode with my bud :rolleyes: He just returned the favor :eek:
I do eat shreaded wheat and this does have that effect ~ 2 - 3 hrs later. |
Are you using milk ?.. I have become lactose intolerant... All it takes is a little milk and stand back.... Can't drink the stuff anymore..

I don't think I drink enough milk for that to be a problem. Like, I can be out all day on a century for example, where I drink lots of water and gatorade - no milk products at all - and blast up a storm. Maybe it's just the way I'm built... |
Those are afterburners. Use them for an extra boost when launching into your sprint.

Nothing to do with carbohydrates. I've read that models who go on high-protein diets and low on carbohydrates fart more.

Raisins do it for me. I eat almost a cup on long rides and toot for hours.

I can rip some fierce ones myself. I've been known to stir up a race pretty good. I haven't yet figured out how to use it to my advantage in the races yet... |
