LT test on rollers

Hey everyone, I haven't posted on the forum for a long time, but I've been lurking on here more and more lately so I guess it's time to start posting again. Anyway, in Joe Friel's "The Cyclist's Training Bible," he details how to do a LT test on a stationary bike using mph as a gauge of wattage. Since I don't really have access to a stationary bike, I was wondering if this would be more or less accurate doing it on rollers. It seems like it would be just as much as the stationary bike. Has anyone tried doing this? Thanks!

Shouldn't be a problem to measure your LTHR as long as the rollers provide sufficient resistance to allow you to ride at LT. Kreitler publishes the wattage required for their rollers as a function of speed.

Should be entertaining. I'll suggest based on my own roller workouts that you be very good on them.

IIRC, I couldn't do 'em on my rollers without a resistance unit. I'd spin out first or at least my cadence would get so high that it wasn't the same workout. With a unit, no problem. Better than a trainer IMHO. It is entertaining, exactly the point of using rollers in the first place!

Anything that you measure requires standards.

I've used rollers to train "with power" by paying attention to gearing, speed/cadence and tire pressure.

Typically, simply lowering tire pressure can generate enough resistance to allow for "LT" work. You may be of course still be spinning rather quickly at speeds approaching 40mph - but, I would imagine most people would indeed be at or above LT.......

Yeah, RC is right. I forgot. I used to take my tires down to 65 lbs. That worked OK, but it felt a little weird.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to give it a try and see how it works out. I recently bought an ibike power meter, but haven't had an opportunity to get it set up yet. When I get that set up I'll be able to do an on the road test, but in the meantime....
