Body Cleansing (Detox)

Has anyone done any sort of detox? Not for drugs but for a body "cleansing". I was thinking about trying one. One particular recommends eating nothing but fruit and vegetables for two days while drinking water and green tea.
Has anyone done a detox and did you notice a difference? Would you recommend it? Any info would help.
Thanks

You can bonk horribly doing that. Personally, I think a century would clean you out better I drink green tea with breakfast every day.
They say it's good for you. All I know is I have to drink 12 ounces to get out the door vertical. I have real doubts as to the benefit of a couple days of anything..... Start living a healthier life.

The purpose of a detox diet is to rid our bodies of preservatives and chemicals in foods that we have been exposed to since the day we're born.

I don't think "a few days" will do it. I think a proper detox takes 1-2 weeks.

With this you have to be very careful and account of certain vitamins you take in - make sure you have enough of all the essentials. Not only vitamins but EFA's and protein also.

"Detox" schemes have been around for years...they are all bunk. I have never seen a single scientific paper that supports any of the various detox methods (fasting, fruit diets, coffee enemas, etc.).

Don't waste your time or money on this stuff.

For some background on detox schemes, and why they are bogus, check here:

Green tea still has high amounts of caffeine - can't see how it could have a place in a detox.

As SSP said, don't waste your time.

However try this: spin around on the spot and all you're toxins will fly out your fingertips. You may need to do it for an hour to see the benefits. You'll feel amazing after you stop. It really works!!

High amounts of caffeine? I have had most varieties of green tea trying to find one I like. Never saw one with high caffeine. You want
a buzz from tea...try Morning Thunder. The good stuff in green tea is bitter. As it gets stronger it also gets bitterer. It's the kind of bitter that cuts through sugar and milk like a nitro fueled chainsaw. Which is why you only brew it for 2 or 3 minutes.

Sorry for the ambigious wording.

My intetion was to highlight that green tea contains significant levels of caffeine. Many people tend to see it as caffeine free (like herbal teas). Depending on how it's brewed it still represents 25% the caffeine of a typical cup of coffee. Considering the amount (multiple pots) of green tea you may consume on some detox diets that could mean very high levels of caffeine in your system. Much more than your double-tall-soy-latte-sipping NYer

The best strategy for ridding oneself of toxins is not to ingest them in the first place. This means a helthy diet of food prepared from staples...the least amount of processing you can get away with. As one who is sympathetic to alternative approaches to heath, I know of no value to so-called "detox" schemes; they are as bogus as homeopathy.

You ever get a buzz from green tea? I never have. I drink a 12 oz cup and get nothing more than gentle lift. There is an exception, there are a couple green teas that are a little stronger. Gunpowder is famous largely because it is green; and has a perceptible amount of caffeine. But the better Japanese greens taste a lot nicer.

Heh, heh, you haven't gotten some of the green tea that my husband gets from the chinese guys he works with. Some of that stuff you brew 30-45 seconds and then re-use the leaves a couple of times. If you let it brew a couple of minutes you get stuff that is reeeeely bitter. . .

I have read that most of the caffeine in tea is brewed out in the first 30 seconds after hot water hits it. So if you pour off the water after that time you have a tea that is greatly much reduced in caffeine, if not caffeine free. And it's still got some flavor, no matter what kind of tea you are drinking.

As for detoxing, I don't know about you, but it realy flushes me out!

Thanks everyone, I kind of figured it would be a bad idea and your input has proved it even more so. I was never a big fan of fasting or eating fruit for a few days. Thanks for the link.
