Salmonella aids cycling fitness

Honest. Getting a bout of Salmonella poisoning has helped my fitness.

Quick story: I get back from a business trip to Denver and my wife had a chicken salad waiting for me made by my favorite NYC Vendy winning food truck. Little did she know the owner of the food truck had a concussion the day prior - but still decided to work and cook. So, I ate the tainted salad. 3 days of vomiting, a quick trip to the doctor for a blood test and now I am on a mostly vegetarian diet. Today, at 8:00 am I cycled more than I have ever in the last 2 years after a rough week or work and I feel great.

There's no real fitness advice here other than a small catastrophe has led to weight / eating reduction which has led to an overall level of higher cardio. fitness. Sometimes there are silver linings to less-than circumstances.

Cheers. I think the resulting after-effects (diminished capacity to eat), plus weight reduction helped in this case?

I just thought it was an interesting process in getting "fitter" by accident and not dissimilar to some fad diets which utilize zoonotic organisms (tapeworms etc.) to hasten weight loss.

Just curious, how did his concussion come into play, did he forget to keep it refrigerated properly or something?

His concussion must have led to cooking food improperly due to not being right in the head maybe?

I think most of us, at least I have, at one time or another done some exercise after a bout of illness and felt better than ever. I would guess after an illness your body has really shifted to healing and recovery more so than it usually does. And you are probably down a few pounds. Perhaps like Lance Armstrong getting cancer and coming back even leaner and lighter.
