ive just made my first batch, they're really nice.. easy to make as well.

it worked out at 40p a bar which is a little more than i expected.. even using the cheapest oats and chocolate (honey and peanut butter were expensive). still a lot cheaper than buying the marketed bars though, and i know what's gone into these. really worthwhile.

they've got an energy drink recipe as well, dont know how it compares to gatorade because i've never used the stuff

here it is anyway..

500ml water
450ml orange juice/any fruit juice
a pinch of salt
a few drops of lemon juice - can get this bottled from most stores
a couple of teaspoons of honey (you get enough sugar from the juice, but it's horribly sour without the honey)

shake it up well

thanks for posting! I think i'm going to try out the simple recipe. 40p a bar is around 65 cents each american (used online calc). I was just shopping for some powerbars today and your lucky to get $1.00-1.25 each (not to mention $2 each in stores).

After getting a little math crazy...
With the ingredients that I bought each bar costs about 55 cents per bar
Has
472 calories
14 g fat
13.7 g protein
54.25 g carbs

not to mention they are pretty tasty. I made 8 bars per batch. The limiting ingredient is peanut butter, buy more if you want to make more than 2 batches. If want less calories, an easy way would be to cut down on the honey or use low calorie peanut butter.

im glad people are making them. i ate 3 of them on yesterday's ride, a hilly 35 miles, and i feel great today. i always got really tired the day after a ride but these bars and the drink have made a huge difference

gonna have to try these. i wouldn't be surprised if they turned out great. this is how clif bars started out, after all.

We made them also. I think the biggest thing for me is that they needed to be dryer, so we are going to double the amount of the oats and see what that does. That oil cook the honey a little bit to get it to set up a little more.

I'll be making these this weekend. I'll probably cut back a bit on both the PB and the Honey and add some whey protein powder. Being a diabetic, 54g carbs is a bit much for an energy bar, but I can probably get 10 bars per batch, which should help to reduce that number a bit.

I've made my own by modifying a recipe http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/a...ipe/index.html from Alton Brown on foodnetwork.com
I added whey protein powder to the mix and cut the brown sugar in half replacing it with splenda. The reason is I prefer a bit lower carb/sugar and a bit lower GI.
