riding directly after eating. good or bad?

sometimes i ride directly after i eat. i am fairly full but not stuff to where i am busting out of my pants. is this a good idea? i feel fine during and after the ride. any long term consequences? my pace is about 3.5mile in 15-20min.

If you can i would wait about 30 minutes to hop onto a bicycle after eating, the main issue you'll run into is cramps. It can also lead to poor digestion of the food

I have to wait upwards of 2 1/2 hours, otherwise I cramp up and get burpy.

Digestion utilizes blood, which will detract from the cardiovascular supply. Of course, it also depends on what you're eating. If you're eating something high in protein, or bulky like meat, or a shake, you're just asking to barf in the middle of a hard ride. On the other hand, something water based, that's high carb should be alright.

I say it's not a good idea, but no, there shouldn't be any long term effects.

3.5 miles in 15-20 minutes is like a taking a casual stroll after dinner. That's not going to cause any problems.

Depending on the person, doing a hard climb or intervals or a race right after eating can make some people's stomach upset. But if that happens, you'll know about it, and learn what works for you.

So you are doing something that feels fine, and then ask us if its okay.
Worry much?

I guess how you condition yourself makes a difference. A couple years ago I knew a guy that got used to eating something like sandwich (pre-sliced bread, fw sliced of turkey, tomato, lettuce, cucumber) and do hard exercise 15 minutes later without trouble.
