Indoor Trainer

I was wondering if anyone has a 1Up indoor trainer and what they thought of it? I am in the market for a unit and would welcome any feedback or recommendations. Thanks

I don't know about 1Up other than they're a reputable brand. I just got a Cylops wind trainer and I like it a lot. It is noisey but I don't mind that so much. From what I understand, wind trainers produce the most realistic feel but the compromise is that they're loud. Fluid and mag trainers are supposed to be more quiet but with less realistic feel. I think the differences are related to how resistance increases in response to speed...

Thanks for the input, I think I am going to order one tomorrow. Sounds like it is a solid piece except the resistance issue seems to be a common problem. There has been good feedback about the customer service though and a review I read said the problem has been fixed so I'll take my chances and buy AMERICAN! Thanks again.

I've had a 1up for a few years. They're well built but the resistance on mine has been flakey. I've read of others who have had the same problem. After about a year I had to replace the friction unit. The manufacturer was great about sending me the part -- no shipping charges and no need to return the old unit. But it only partly fixed the problem.

What will happen is this: you start an interval. About 45 seconds into your interval the resistance unit will suddenly bog down. You downshift. You downshift again, trying to maintain a cadence. Then a few minutes later the resistance will gradually ease and you can upshift again.

It's not a horrible problem, but for an expensive unit, you'd expect more consistent resistance.

I've heard really good things about the Kurt Kinetic trainers, which are sold on the 1up website. If it's not too late, I suggest you try one of those instead.

Best of luck!
