You dont boil turkish coffee though, the key is to keep it right under boiling.

Daveyboy 01-16-10 02:27 PM

Double shot latte in the morning - currently been enjoying Lavazza Gold or Super Crema (out of my Sylvia.)

I must have coffee, lots of it, every day, to stay alive. I am scared that if I don't drink it my heart will slow down and eventually stop beating.

ugh this stuff is like drinking tar to me. I may be weaksauce when it comes to coffee. I'll stick with my white chocolate mocha with just a dash of caramel

The coffee and biking thing has always been a weird match to me. I get the caffeine aspect but I struggle to down a whole cup with out my stomach just feeling weird and uneasy. On a cold day maybe, but I hear guys talk about it on hot days and some times even stopping mid ride for a coffee break!!

If you want to maximise flavor, try an Aeropress.

I mention that one largely because the aromatic oils in coffee provide much of the flavor,
and all that boiling in the Turkish method removes those aromatic oils.

+1 on the Aerobie.

About 5 years ago, I bought a $400 Rancilio Silvia espresso machine figuring it'd save me money I was burning at the local Starbucks. Got a good burr grinder as well. It's been a damn good investment. That and a French press suit me fine.

I like African origins, but I've had some really good Brazilian "Santos" beans lately. These beans usually aren't notable in an way, a good base for an espresso blend, but I've taken to pulling shots of it by itself and making a couple cups in my press. Very straightforward, no nonsense coffee. And cheaper too!

Community New Orleans Chicory blend, very strong, with honey and a shot of hazelnut creamer, in 32 oz mug gets my day started right.

What is cowboy style? Did you pour smashed beans into a tin cup and boil it over a mesquite fire next to your bed? ;)

I like a large cup every morning, drink half quickly and then sip it occasionally for an hour or so.
I have been using sugar but want to switch to something else to save calories but I need some sweetness.
Yes, drink some coffee, drop a deuce and hit the road to work.
When I get home I usually have half cup with half milk iced for a little 3 pm snack/pick me up.

Depends on who you ask. Either way, it doesn't take much to lose aromatic oils.

I've been a big fan of Lavazza for many years- love every single one of their coffee products.

Nope. I however go thru a phase once every couple of years where I'll drink it for a month then just outta the blue, next time someone asks me out for coffee, I'l just say no. Ps: i drink tea when I have a cold.

Ok, not quite :D But I did boil grounds up in a tin pot on my stove... ;-)

jdon 01-25-10 05:10 PM

Best coffee ever is anything made in a percolator over a wood fire. Maybe that is "cowboy" coffee. I call it camp coffee. Either way, great start to the day!

sknhgy 01-25-10 07:33 PM

4 cups per day, all before 9 a.m. If for some reason I don't have it I will stop everything else and concentrate on getting my coffee.

What style would you recommend for a french press? I had a delicious cup at a restaurant (coffee, not espresso), I tasted a bit of milk chocolate at the end. There are lavazza "espressions" and coffee bars nearby. The first bag I got was not vacuum sealed, the second might have been the "gran filtro" (?) but neither had the right flavor and wasn't very impressive.

Maybe I need the grand espresso. Wish it came in something smaller than a 2.2 lb bag though :(

Oregon Southpaw 01-26-10 03:37 PM

8-12 cups per day

use it as performance enhancer and medication (extreme ADHD, i'm one of those people that coffee calms down)

Drinking it now actually and going to climb up some "<<<" (extreme grade) around town

My bags are always vacuum sealed, and I get the beans. Then I can grind them however I need them- coarse for my french press and fine for my percolator. I've head the Gold selection, Grand Expresso and Top Class, but not the others. I think it's time for another trip! :D

I love coffee! I take it black, always ground right before brewing. Usually 2 cups a day. One with breakfast and one after lunch. I'd like to drink more but after a couple days of 3+ cups I start getting heart palpitations which, while relatively harmless, are not a nice feeling.

I don't know what impact taking it has on training but not having it would definitely take me down a notch.

johnsocks 02-02-10 05:20 PM

Coffee is a heavenly elixir. I can't attest to the physiological reasons that it could improve a workout, but I have been on several rides where I was beat/sluggish at the start only to be revived by a mid-ride triple espresso. I have read that 150 mg of caffeine is the low end of the performance enhancing threshold.

Drink for taste,
Cheers.

Boone608 02-02-10 05:36 PM

I'm a half-caf drinker. If I get to much caffine I get the crazy jitters so it's half-caf for me. This slows the amount taken in and allows me to drink coffee through out the morning. If its a morning ride, 20 or 30, I fill that thermos and bring that along instead of water.
