Anyone still ride during a mild cold virus
Just got a mild summer cold . Still riding . But my rides are more focused on energy conservation rather then training .

I usually don't. I can tell it affects my riding because I usually can't elevate my heart rate hardly at all. Sometimes, it gets bad, so I just take the time off and let my body heal. I'm pretty healthy. With time off, I can be back in the saddle in a few days.

It's not worth it, unless you're a pro who has to finish a race
I wait 'til I'm coming out of it, then do a very easy hour or so.

That's an interesting article, especially the part about the J-curve for respiratory infections.
A couple years back I would run come hell or high water, and in the winter I had a constant chest cold and after running I coughed a lot. The older you get though the more careful you have to be, no?
Still though I'd still ride even with a cold. What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger. (Or maybe just maim you for life or something . . .)

I just go out and ride when I have a cold. Often I feel pretty miserable when I start because of the congestion which I think affects my middle ear affecting my sense of balance making me feel a bit "light headed" and stuff like that. The odd thing is that something about exercising seems to clear up the airways and I start feeling better, in facts, I often feel much better when I am riding then I feel at any other time during the day. I do take it easy. I just go out and do easy miles - no intervals or time trials or any of that stuff.

I agree with Pat I make a point of exercising when I'm congested as I almost invariably feel better by the end. Might be something that doesn't happen for everyone but my airways definitely clear out at least for a few hours if I exert myself enough with mild congestion.

Good article , I took one day off and today I zoomed a 30 miler . I use alchemy to boost the immune system . Basically , I make my own collidiol silver and also use a rife machine which sends a electrical current throughout your entire circulatory system killing parisites , virus's and bacteria as well as fungus . The silver collidiol also is absorbed into your blood system and destroys virus , bacteria , parisites as well as fungus . You will still get the symptoms of the illness , however they will be short lived and your energy levels should stay somewhat stable . The best way to use the collidiol silver is when your get the 1st symptoms of illness . Its allso useful for cleaning your water bottle . This is how Ive stayed healthy for two years . I personally dont believe in vacines made by corperations . I tend to think outside the box in all areas of life .

Yes - at least for running (I have less cycling experience with a cold). I find that moderate to easy exercise helps clear up my colds better than doing nothing. Something about warming up the body, using the respiratory system and getting blood/oxygen flowing really helps. Also it relaxes me which helps me feel better and sleep better. Make sure you drink a lot, avoid even slight deydration.
But don't push yourself, you don't want to break down the body like hard exercise does - that can make things worse.
This is what I do for colds, for any other sickness or anything with a fever, rest.

I still commute on the bike and go out for weekend ride when I have a head cold. Even when it's mildly in the chest I'll usually keep commuting on the bike, but tend to ease up on the weekend "training" rides. If I don't feel well enough to ride, I usually work from home or take a sick day.

Jar,
1) airborne infections like colds usually spread in the winter. Houses are closed up, and the buggies get concentrated.
2) What you may be experiencing is an allergy or an allegy-like episode to something you were exposed to (could be something like a diesel exhaust)
3) You make me nervous when you talk about taking silver and running electricity. This does not sound like a good idea at all.
4) I'd want to trace down the actual cause. Your Doc can do that. In the meantime,
if it's not in your lungs, I wouldn't worry about it. Get some tavist (Walmart has it's house brand of the stuff cheap.) Try taking one pill just before bedtime, just once. See if that helps any.
