Maintenance Calories.

Hi,
I am looking to lose weight and am trying to find a good calorie counter formula or online site. It for both me and my gf. We are trying to calculate our maintenance calories so that we can then reduce them (we are not sure we are evenin geating enough). All the ones i have found so far give wildly differing results...

your help is appreciated...

I like The Daily Plate. Has a good database of foods and is really easy to use. I started using it a few weeks ago for the same reason you described. Check it out.

My girlfriend and I both just started using thedailyplate, and it's my new favorite toy.

It's only been about a week so I can't comment on how accurate it is, but so far I love it--easy to use and gives me lots of fun numbers and charts to play with. Beyond just the calorie counting it's really cool to see how much of what stuff you're actually eating. For example, it looks like I'm getting plenty of protein and fiber, but not nearly enough fat, which I never would have guessed before.

Dr. Oz says 8 X Your weight + 200 gives you an approximation of the cals you need to maintain your existing weight without activity. He also says his (and any other formula) is quite variable. The only way to get an accurate number is to be tested by a lab.
