33year old male, Max heart rate 205, resting HR 50, max sustainable HR 180-185 for approx 55 min, sometimes more, depends on my motivation

I went out for Dinner last night, no alcohol, had sex, slept 8 hours, more sex, slept another 3 hours. I got up at 11:00 am. When my girlfriend woke me up, I was sleeping so soundly, I could barely move.

Ate Breakfast at 11:45 (3 scambled eggs, 4 pieces bacon, 4 pieces toast and jam, yeah 4...haha..)
took the dogs swimming, came home watched Olympic Tennis, ate a Cliff Bar @ 3:00

@ 4:00 I went for a 90 minute ride, every time I tried to get the HR over 170, I would just blow up. It was a solo ride, and i was zipping along at 22mph plus most of the way, but I just couldnt get my HR up. I even jammed hard on the short hills to no avail. @ 176 I would just pop. It was pretty much a "Bad day" but since I was all alone, it just turned into a short training ride. I was able to ride at 157 to 160 and feel OK.

I have been averaging 6-7 hours a night latley, and never feel rested in the morning, but last week was peaking the HR meter @ 205 in a race, and could ride @ 185 with no problem..

Is it possible to get too much rest, and have trouble getting the body "ramped up"?

Kinda sounds like Bull Durham:

"I'm fining you a hundred dollars. Jesus, Ebby, this is your professional debut tonight--you know how many guys out there'd give blood to be in your shoes an' you're leavin' your fastball in the locker room for some piece of ass!"

Over rested? You lack it. Sleeping 6 - 7 hours ain't good. Minimum 8 hours? Remember?

Anyway, if you are over-rested, you must be feeling fresh and it is easy to get your heart rate up. However, apparently you are not doing that. I have no idea about sex, I'm only turning 18 this year, but I bet it's a form of exertion. LOL How much of an exertion is it actually? I have no idea, but do pro cyclists do it often? It's fun to ask and to know.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but I always find that if I have two or three days off the bike, the next ride I can't go fast for about the first hour - almost as if the body's gone into a mini-hibernation and takes a long time to wake up again.

Sleep deprivation is cumulative, it builds over time and you won't make it up in one night. Get more, regular sleep.

Your sleep lack was chasing you and it finally caught up.

g'day smoothie,

'over rested' isn't an issue here, (or EVER an issue). I would suggest you have a look at your training program. It isn't possible to have 'hard' weeks all the time!. It sounds to me like you are 'pushing the envelope' a little & your body is sending you a message about resting more. You understand that improvemnt adaptions come through rest after exertion, rather than continual exertion?. I always find that its difficult for me to complete 'interval' work when I'm tired, (same problem as you, can't get my HR up to stay in the interval zone). depending on where you are in your training program & your goals, you probably shouldn't have much more than 2 hard weeks in a row, followed by an 'easy' week. In short...rest more, this is most likely your problem,

cheers,

Hitchy

I heard last night about a bunch of female runners at the Olympics, from some country (dunno which) were sleeping for 12 to 14 hours a day prior to their events!!

So, I'm assuming this is an instruction.
