Interval Efforts After Training

do any of you have any issue with training efforts soon after returning from travel?

I had to travel this past week for business, and it sounds like travel will be a regular occurance on this job (just started the job 2 weeks ago). Flew out on Monday (Detroit to Puebla MX), was down there Tues+Wed, and returned Thursday. Due to connections and such, both Monday and Thursday were completely taken up by travel.

I tried doing an interval session on Friday, and basically fell flat on my face after the 2nd set. It was Carmichael's MTB DVD. I felt very strong through the 1st and 2nd set of 30s x 30s, recovering well between the 2 sets. After the 2nd set, my HR wouldn't come down, and I felt like I had to be sick. Aborted the dvd plan, and intended on a 30min tempo effort, but my HR shot up higher than it should've been for the effort. Put the kaibash on the workout after 30min total.

Any thoughts?

Traveling does funny things to the body. If you didn't sleep quite as well as normal, that could be a factor. If you were trapped in an airplane for several hours (love that luxurious legroom) that could also be a factor. Throw in a slightly different menu than normal, and yes, first day back to training after a trip can have some rough edges.

What doesn't kill us, hurts like hell (grin).

Last flight back from Europe I spent most of it
standing up, my left leg was like a rock, and that
was after a handful of apsirin.

Ease back into it.

Maybe not the travel itself, but the lack of good rest and nutrition.
