finished first century today.. only 1 mistake

i thought i drank enouph water, but didn't. at the end of the ride i was totally dehidrated to the point where when i got off the bike, i amlmost fainted.... and had to sit down immediately. tried to get up 20 minutes later, and almost fell. it is weird, because during the ride i felt tired, but didn't really feel bad at all until the moment i got off the bike. After i got allot more water in me, i am better. Just have a headache. I drank 4 waterbottles full of water during the ride but it was pretty dam hot the last half, and i weigh 265 pounds so i guess that wasn't enouph. Anyways, i survived, hopefully someone will learn from this. before my next big ride, i am going to buy one of those hydration bags.

101 miles
5 hours 25 minutes
averaged 18.4 miles per hour.

I guess the question here is how well hydrated were you at the start of the ride? I deal with disgusting heat and humidity all the time (although it's currently more bearable than usual for this time of year), and in the lead up to big rides I'll find myself often drinking in excess of 10 litres of water/day. In the really hot weather, it's pretty much impossible to put back every drop of sweat that you lose, so make sure you've got plenty in reserve.

Either way, that's a pretty good time for a first century.

Good ride, excellent time for a first century!
A quickie test to see if you are hydrated enough on a century: If at the next porta-john/pit stop you cannot P . . . you need MORE water! Drink up!!!

good job, I just recently did a 100miler in mamouth. I did alright considering the bad head wind for the last 40 something miles.

That is an awesome time. I'm planning on doing my first century next summer. Sometime in June at an event called the Big Mick. I think the website is www.thebigmick.org

Then in August I'm going to do the Rushmore Century.

I should hopefully be down to 200lbs when I attempt my centuries.
