A Cool Calorie Calculator I found

Hey guys,
So after posting how I would lose weight etc, I found this site. You just put in your goal weight, etc and what you want to weigh, height, etc. It said if I exercise an hour a day I can have about 2000 calories and lose a pound a week. I don't think I get much more than 2000 calories a day anyways. A bowl of cereal for breakfast, probably like 600 calories for lunch, and like 700 more at dinner. I should be losing weight, but it's still staying the same. I guess it's going to take longer since I am not really that out of my weight range.

Don't guess how much you're eating ... use these tools for a few weeks and find out:

You will be surprised how much you may actually be eating once you start tracking it. Portion sizes are insane.

what is a site that is like a calorie counter and tells me what to eat per day combined with my 60 minutes exercise. by next year i should be down to my goal weight right?

jschristian44 06-08-11 08:47 AM

but yeah i know about the calories, 2 small cookies are 140 calories. i eat like 8 cookies and thats like 800 calories right there.

Counting your burned calories is a bit overrated and at best a guesstimate.
I use livestrong but I think any of the sites Machka linked would do that.
I only add in burned calories when it is a long ride to keep myself from starving.

i think i am good to go if i just dont overindulge on fast food more than once a day. i just went to the grocery store and got huge strawberries, salad mix, carrots, apples, pears, grapes, etc. as long as i eat these like once a twice a day plus do my biking, i think i should stay at least bit fit. i also swim a little bit on days i do not bike, just to get the whole body in motion. i think i only need to start a paper diet thing if it really looks like i am getting overweight, but i am still in my weight range for my height.

off-topic, but did you ever find a new bike, or still riding the current one?

and as far as calorie counters, post #2 has some good resources, i use the one at livestrong, there's a pretty good tool there that should get you where you need to be.

and this site is pretty cool too, once you figure out your target for daily intake, this can help you plan some of your meals:

i am actually going to look at a good deal bike tomorrow. hopefully everything will turn out good. i cant wait. anyways, to the person that said to actually count calories and youd be suprised, man you are right. i bought a package of the twizzler's niblets the other day and looked at it. it said like 140 per serving and like 5 servings per package. that is like 800 calories just for that one package of twizzler's niblets. it really shocked me to see how much calories are in candy. saw a 3 cupcake package and it was like 400 calories. so right there if i ate those 2 things, id have 1200 for the day already. thats how much i should intake plus my exercise just to lose weight. at this rate i will be stuck at my current weight forever.

Exactly right ... you may think you're not eating that much, but a lot of foods have a lot more calories than you think.

And really watch those serving sizes. That's one of my pet peeves with food companies, although I think they are getting a bit better. Sometimes you'll buy something which you might think is one serving, but when you look at it, it's actually 2 or more servings, but they only show the calories for one serving, so you have to calculate what it would be for the whole thing.

One product line you have to really watch is sugared soft drinks. It used to be that one 600 ml bottle of coke was actually something like 2.2 servings, and you had to do a calculation to figure out how many calories were in the whole bottle. But who buys a small bottle of coke and just drinks one "serving"?? I think they may have changed it so that they list the calories per bottle now, but I'm not sure .... it's been a long time since I've looked.

If you want to lose weight ... reduce or cut out the sweet stuff. Have a piece of fruit or bowl of veggies instead.

one a DAY???? You should not eat fast food ever. I eat it maybe 2ce a YEAR - and only on road trips where it's the only option.

I think that calculator may not be accurate for heavy people like me...

It says I need to eat 5000 calories a day to maintain my weight. Been eating 1800 a day for the past month and haven't lost a pound. :|

DataJunkie 06-13-11 07:29 AM

5000 sounds like bit too much. However, if you go too far negative your body goes into starvation mode and you will not loose weight.
I ate 1800 a day during winter while working out and did not loose a pound. All I managed was to feel like crap. Once I added a few hundred calories back in I started loosing weight.

OK, now try the calculator with your goal weight, not your current weight. You're not looking to maintain your weight, you're looking to lose.

Are you sure you've been eating 1800 calories a day? You've been counting, not guessing?
