HFCS post ride OK?
Just want some thoughts on downing a bottle of Coca Cola after a long ride. You know, when you feel you can eat a tub of ice cream.
|
I prefer it during the long ride if I can find the sugar version.

Despite many negative comments on HFCS, it's composition is nearly ideal for fueling during rides. It has been shown that ingesting glucose and fructose together increases the rate of carbohydrates processed per hour. It won't hurt you to experiment. If you don't notice any digestive problems then it's fine. By taking in more calories while riding you won't need to replenish as much after the ride and your performance will be better.

Beer is better. I prefer a porter. Maybe 2. Then some more carbs. Then a nap. Then dinner. The cola is anti-nap. But it all depends on what you consider a "long ride."

I prefer a milk stout. Or any stouts for that matter. My current favorite: http://www.lefthandbrewing.com/img/o..._504439711.jpg |

When that article came out, I bought the ingredients and mixed my own, using instant green tea for flavoring.
A couple years later, I bought a case of "Powerbar Endurance" which is based on the same recipe, when REI had a 1/2 price sale on it. I still have half the case left. I only use it on rides well over 2 hours. I have done up to 130 miles with 9800' climbing using only this mix. |
