GU Energy vs Powerbar Gel

Bought a few packs of each and tried them both last week. The first time I tried the GU, had to go to the bathroom quick and stay there for a while, LOL. Second time, it was fine.

But I like the Powerbar gel a little better because it's not as thick as the GU, and I like it during my rides for that reason alone... GU is too thick when I'm right in the middle of a 40 miler. But after my rides, I'll take the GU to help with the recovery. Did that a couple times, and so far it seems to work pretty well.

Both cost about the same at my LBS.

What do you guys like?

Homemade gel made from brown rice syrup and honey.
Hammer Gel. Especially the apple cinnamon version.
Cliff capuchino gels.

I have never cared much for GU or Powerbar gels.

Hammer Gel by the 1 pt. flask. Decant into their 6 oz. sqeeze bottles. Easier, cheaper, better, no packaging. Raspberry is good. Their Espresso has a real kick to it. Always drink a good bit of water after each gel. You have to dilute it to process it.

I've tried Hammer, Powerbar, Cliff, and GU gels. Powerbar for me was the best tasting and the easiest to handle on the road. The only thing I don't like about it is the packaging. I wish they would take the route Hammer took with the larger quantities and a flask.
