It bands/age and pilates?
Bike Forums Group:
45 years old, "love" training on my bike indoors, seeing reductions in my overall finish time (TT) and in the market for a new bike that I want to purchase by mid summer. Lately, I am hearing a "snapping" sound coming from my right leg. When I apply pressure by hand to my thigh, the snapping sounf stops. Doesn't hurt. Just a weird sound. Doesn't happen all the time, either. Spoke to a fitness intructor today. She mentioned my IT Band is going. Also mentioned I need to incorporate Pilates into my training. Currently, I train 2X a day. About 40 minutes in the morning. And about 1 hour at nght. Structured work outs with rest day and simple recovery day during the week. Like most of the members on this site, I enjoy cycling. It gives me a wonderful outlet and I enjoy the personal improvements in finish time and fitness base. While I won't break records, my finish times are being reduced and I love simply being on the bike. Would like to know if anyone out there has had issues with their IT Bands. Also, Pilates? Is anyone doing Pilates? I am being told than I need to "lay off" the cyling and spend time on core training. |
IT band seems possible. Could be bike fit. It is said that if the pain comes from the side or back of the knee, lower your saddle. From the front of the knee, raise the saddle. Could also be cleat placement, leg length discrepancy, foot angle on the pedal, any number of things. Search this forum, advanced, for "IT band" with the quotes. It's common and also difficult to treat.
Probably nothing to do with age. |
cross training is wonderful. took up running and swimming a few years ago. it helps develope fitness without the potential for repetitive movements injuries. rule #1 = do no harm
