asthma/ inhaler help and advice - ALVESCO
i have been dealing with some vmo tendon issues for about 8 months- due to a muscle imbalance in my left leg, which puts too much force on my vmo- and the doctor says a lot of my imbalance my be cause by overuse and fatigue in my vmo (quad). i did some vo2max and lung function testing with the dr and apparently i have asthma. even after racing and training for a few years (im only 23) my lung function is still 74% of a normal person my age. the doctor has proscribed me with Alvesco 80 mcg 2x daily and he will reevaluate me after 1 month (1 week from now).
I was wondering if anyone has experience with alvesco, or if there is another daily type inhaler which you have seen results with. My doc says he has had good results with alvesco, but after 3 weeks i honestly feel nothing. i have been swimming to reduce stress on my knee and breathing is as stressful as ever, and while riding my bike for 1.5-2.5 hours my cardio ability feels weaker than ever. any advice would be wonderful; i feel incurable at this point and it sucks because im so young and havent shown any improvement in 6 months

Sometimes you need to experiment to find an asthma med that works. Albuterol didn't work for me but Symbicort does. Go back to the doctor and get something different.

Fluticasone/salmeterol has worked well for my wife. I mostly use fluticasone alone. Because of the sorry state of US drug law and insurance, we have to purchase from Canada. But every case is different. You may need to see a pulmonologist.

I have Albuterol for a rescue, emergence inhaler but never use it any longer. What works very well for me, as it does for ericm is Symbicort. Talk to the MD and let him or her know what is or is not working. There are a number of possibilities.

I've had asthma since I was a kid and have been on tons of different meds. There are plenty to choose from for rescue inhaler, but albeuterol and symbicort are the most used I think
but I have always had a hard time breather in water. It feels to me like he water pressure makes a difference. It doesn't keep me out of the pool or off my bike. But the exercise can only help you!
Keep it up!
