sudden DOMS?

I don't understand why my muscles are hurting like I just lifted weights yesterday (specifically my quads & glute muscles). Yesterday morning I went for a 60 miler, which really shouldn't be difficult for me... granted it was at a fairly quick pace, but it still shouldn't hurt like it's hurting right now. I haven't felt this since 6 months ago when I was doing strength training.

June 8th I had a long 100 mile ride, steady pace, gave me 220 miles for the week. Last weekend I had a 13 mile TT on Friday, 31 mile road race on Sat, and a 30 minute crit (cat 5) on Sun... giving me a low mileage total for the week at 135 miles.

What would cause a sudden case of DOMS? I did just put a new saddle on the bike, that was this past Thursday, but I measured everything out to be exactly the same fit as my previous saddle. I can't see a new saddle doing this much to someone anyways, even if it was off by 1 mm.

Is it possibly because I haven't given myself time to recover? I feel like the previous week was pretty easy, besides yesterdays ride. Yesterday was a pretty quick paced group ride, but nothing I haven't done before! There was an hour section that was pretty darn quick though for a regular training ride, but still nothing I haven't done before! Besides the 60 miler, it was another easy week this week (didn't want it to be an easy week), with only 140 miles. I've been drinking plenty water, and been eating enough calories to recover... what gives? What's up with the soreness? I'm hoping tomorrow will be back to business as usual.

There was a thread about this on this forum a while back. Search. I don't remember the exact issue/solution, but I have a vague memory that it wasn't a good thing. Something about excessive muscle breakdown, which can be dangerous. I've only had ordinary DOMS, so otherwise I'm not much help. But yes, you shouldn't hurt like that the day after. It should be two days after, which is the D part of DOMS.
