Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Gentle stretching exercises daily can help. It sounds a lot like a case of desk-itis. https://tranquilitycs.wordpress.com/2...in-and-stress/

Same here, on some occasions. For the trap pain I swapped back to a shorter stem. I found out I was using the longest/lowest stem combo I had ever used because I trusted the frame dimension table for the early '80s Paramounts. It was a cm off.
I'm also trying to be a lot more careful about dropping my elbows and changing up hand positions.

Edit: I'll second TS's suggestion. Sitting at a desk all day is one of the WORST things for your body. I'm a field ecologist...why the heck can't I get away from my desk?

I sit at a desk most of the day as well. I have found these stretches work for me and you can do them at your desk.

Yoga eagle stretch. Keep your elbows up and your arms around 90 degrees.

Side neck stretch. Do this with your ear toward your shoulder, then tilt your chin toward the floor.

On how long a ride? What's it take to get you hurting on the bike?

Daily neck/shoulder stretching helped me. I also started using aerobars, that really helps on the long rides I like to do. You'll also want to look into getting a bike fitting if you haven't done so already.
