forcing rest days

3 years ago I suffered a serious life threatening medical problem. It took me over a year before I could ride a bike and work out.

The last year though has been absolutely great for me physically with riding, swimming, lifting weights and basketball. I feel so good and so thankful that its so hard for me to stop and take rest days.

I now have to force myself to stop and take rest days because I know its the best thing to do physically.

Do you guys find it hard emotionally and mentally to stop and rest ?

Not really. If I feel like riding, I ride. I may not go hard but I ride. If I'm beat, I rest.

The more I work my arse off the more I enjoy rest days.

Rain and the vagaries of life cause me to skip enough days that it isn't an issue.

I rarely have a problem finding enough rest days. My job, family, and other commitments, not to mention weather and our long winters, keep me off the bike more than I'd like. There are days when I take an active rest approach doing some recreational cruising with lots of stops (often to pursue my other interest of photography). Nothing wrong with a laid back ride once in a while, not every day has to be a hammerfest.

Life always seems to provide me with enough rest days.

Rest days? No way. If I can't ride I spin for 40-50km before bed. I consider a day without riding to be bad. Been at it fit over a yeer now and aside from sore muscles now and then I feel great. On the day before a big ride I yake it eady but never do I not ride.

That generally results in mediocre results for me.

Well, it may or may not be good for your fitness but it's certainly doing ****-all for your spelling...
