Perpetuuem and Electrolights
Mrs. Zoxe got me a canister of Perpetuuem for Christmas. I've yet to try it. Was reading this morning and can't find this bit of detail:
When using Perpetuuem, do I also need to pack a bottle of electrolights? What's the typical usage, for say, a 4-6 hr event on a typical midwest summer day (70-85 deg morning ride)? |
So they say on their site...
They have a lot of good info there, especially about absorption rates of various carbs, metabolic implications and such... |
No, you don't need extra electrolytes. There are many ways to use it, all explained on the Hammer website, here:

I usually clamp my electrolights to my handlebars and make sure the batteries are good ...

I don't get particularly hungry on the bike. Consequently, I have not eaten enough in the past, especially on longer rides. Perpetuum tastes fine which results in a steady intake of fuel.
|
I mix HEED and Perpeteum because evidently I need the extra electrolytes. Experiment a little but keep in mind that Perp. is really best used for rides over 4 hours in length. Under 4 hours, I stick with HEED when I have it available. Under 2 hours, I usually run just on water unless I am at race pace.

Eventually there will be micro-sensors that would be able to detect a body's blood makeup (and sweat) while riding as well. Imagine having sensors being able to analyze the various rates of usage and the need to supply the nutrients in advance. This would take the nutritional products to a new level.
I would think that this type of technology would be first aimed at diseases like diabetes but used for other purposes as well. |
