Maybe that's exactly why you have a problem getting rid of stubborn fat. Sometimes the very things we hate are the very things that are good for us... That's exactly what you need, is to start lifting some weights and doing some strength training for your upper body and core...Cyclists don't need to train like powerlifters and bodybuilders but a regular strength training session is very beneficial.

+1

I pay a personal trainer in advance so I have to show up to lift weights. Once you get in the habit it becomes much easier.

... Then you were doing something wrong... You can limit calories and starve yourself on almost any diet. But starvation diets seldom work long term.

A lot of people think a high carb diet means eating mostly just lettuce and the like. You can -- but that's not smart. You need to balance each meal with whole grains, legumes, starches, vege's, fruits, etc...

I am down almost 50 pounds on a HCLF diet (about 15% fat, 15% protein and the rest carbs) and can say that I am far less hungry now than I was on a diet closer to the standard American diet (30-40% fat) -- mostly because the cravings are gone. I eat when I'm hungry. But, all I have to do is eat some pizza and the cravings (and the pounds) are back for the next couple days...

I have been on low-carb, high-fat for the past 5 years. Only when I was lifting weights I'd raise the carbs up a bit, because anaerobic exercise (i.e. short and intensive) does require muscle glycogen.

I am not an experienced cyclist or athlete but from what I have learned during these past 5 years, carbs are not at all necessary for endurance training. Read this:

Steve Phinney ? Low-Carb preserves Glycogen better than High Carb | Me and My Diabetes

You do need some carbs for brain function, though, but less than 50 grams.

I did about 50 miles (single speed) on nothing but two boiled eggs and a coffee last summer (consumed midway; I didn't have breakfast that day). I plan on doing 100 this year on very-low-carb.

I am not going to bother checking these numbers, but either way, the "standard American diet" is in no way comparable to the usual LCHF diets that we Paleo-oriented people follow. The reason is that the American diet is full of all the wrong types of fat: polyunsaturated fats from GMO soy/corn/canola and from mass produced livestock. The only good fats are saturated fat and monounsaturated from animal sources and certain plants (coconut, palm, olive).

Since I hate going to the gym I guess I better sign up for the swimming pool.
If you depend on only aerobic exercise to lose fat you will end up becoming a slave to it. Building muscle burns calories while you sleep, aerobic exercise only burns calories while you are doing it, and then penalizes you when you stop. So your options are do some very high intensity work to build muscle, or ride (run, swim, whatever) a lot more hours. If you hate the gym that much there are plenty of activities that require speed and are kind of a middle road between strength and aerobic exercise, for example tennis, basketball, soccer, etc.

Hi carnivroar, a few things to add:

I think the problem here is the amount of of carbs and their direct effect on the insulin levels of the body. Good type or bad type, in a paleo-ketogenic diet, the body knows and can process the excess amount of fat intake. On the other hand, for people on what you consider the "standard American diet", they consume lots of carbs and this leads to high blood sugar levels thus fat storage. No matter what the type. For example, butter and bacon are good for us low carbers, not so much for them.

I know this sounds like we are an elite legion of super heroes whose bodies can decompose fat better than everyone and in a way it is true. But not to forget that most of us chose this type of diet because our bodies have a different reaction to insulin.

Things like net calories and -7000 cals equaling 1 kg weight loss is a BS as big as the BMI.

Oh well ... I guess you don't need anyone's help getting rid of all that belly fat you were complaining about earlier.

Let us know how you go getting rid of it with your butter and bacon.

Well ... I'm not sure why he bothered posting. He obviously doesn't want to hear any of the suggestions anyone has to offer. After all of that, he seems to think his butter and bacon diet is the way to go. <<shrug>>

Start lifting weights.
It's going to benefit your health, and most likely make you a better cyclist. While it might not make you much better at your 4 hour long rides, your sprinting will get better, your hill climbing will get better, and you will look much better while doing it.

I now have much narrower calves, ankles, hips, arms, shoulders, neck and whatnot. I have almost zero love-handles, visible collarbones and everything. I do, however have a good amount of belly fat still intact. It sure is much less than before but it's still there.

I am 1.80m tall (5'11") at some point I was 106 kg (234 lbs) and I now weigh roughly 80-81 kg (178 lbs). I know it's completely BS but my BMI is 24,9 which is just below the overweight threshold. I'm not into six-packs or 18% body fat or whatever. I just want this thing completely gone.

Is there something I'm missing? I'm doing a fair amount of cardio workouts (bike & run) and I do not overeat.

PS: I am on a LCHF diet and it seems to work well. Please do not try to convince me to change my diet.
I am in a similar situation. (Recently lost 60 ponds and now have a BMI of 25.0) From what I can tell, the extra skin from the tummy comes from the fact that it was stretched out when you were overweight and it does not unstretch itself over night. It may reduce overtime but never go away without an operation (called a "tummy tuck" in the U.S.). I try to not let myself get discouraged. I am just happy that all the blood work my doctor does every six months says that I am healthy.

My advice is concentrate on eating healthy and exercising. If you do this, your body will take care of itself.

As I've mentioned in my original post, I'm up to suggestions OTHER THAN changing my current diet. I've tried other diets and guess what, they don't work for me.

I don't recall insulting your diet and choices. I'll keep eating my delicious bacon cheese omelette every morning which by the way includes a hefty amount of butter and believe it or not, I will not have cholesterol problems or related heart diseases. If oat meal works for you, fine. Eat that.

Last, but not least, I hereby officially announce that I refuse to lift any weights apart from my body weight. I'll swim, I'll do crunches, squads, leg raises, pull ups, push ups, whatever there is to do. I'll not be a part of this dirty business:

This is my stand.

No, he doesn't. Actually in the original post he said:
"PS: I am on a LCHF diet and it seems to work well. Please do not try to convince me to change my diet."

His choice.

Fixed that for you...
... By the way, you left out that they also tell you the high fat, high cholesterol, high saturated fat diets don't promote cancer or Alzheimers... 40 years of accumulated science tell us that they do -- but the new experts site a study or two that "disproves" those theories...

And, in Post 46, he has emphasised that not only does he not want to change his diet, but he also does not want to change his exercise.

I don't get it ... if he's happy with everything, why post a request for help for a problem???
