Looking for App to track indoor training

I'm looking for an android app that will track training data, including heartrate, watts, and a decent estimate of calories burned, for indoor training such as elliptical trainer, treadmill, and of course the bike trainer/spin bike. I've been looking but the apps with that track the info I want all seem to be GPS based for running or riding. I assume that without actual speed, distance and elevation data, these won't be of much use. I've looked at apps for indoor training but they seem to be either electronic coaches that lead you through a pre-programmed workout, glorified pedometers, or timers where you input the exercise and relevant info and the app takes a guess at the statistics.

I've got a Mio Alpha 1 HR monitor (Bluetooth and Ant+) and a Samsung Galaxy 5 to work with.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

endomondo allows one to track/log all sorts of indoor and outdoor activities, including the three you mentioned. I have used it for walking (outdoors), but not for anything else, so I really can't say definitively it will work for your purposes. You could always get the free version and then upgrade if needed.

In terms of the original question (ie: app to track indoor training) the best setup I've found so far is to use TrainerRoad with a speed/cadence sensor and use virtual power. It's just.. awesome, short of a real power meter.

But it doesn't seem to be Android compatible :( so if you just wish to track HR you have plenty of apps like Strava, RunKeeper, Endomodo etc. that run on Android. Tracking only HR is not really useful, but you'll get training times, and don't forget to add comments on how you felt the effort so you can correlate later on.

I use the wahoo fitness app with my polar bluetooth hr monitor, and wahoo bluetooth speed/cadence sensor. I like it for indoor training because its really simple.

-compatible with all bluetooth and ant+ devices on the market.
-you can customize it to display a multitude of different pages with the information you're most interested in.
-custom pages can be set up for each type of activity (cycling, running, indoor cycling, etc, etc).
-you can custom set heart rate zones. it estimates calories. it tracks power by several different metrics.
-you can share the data with almost every other exercise app/service
-you can also download the raw data files in several different formats if you want to analyze the raw data yourself. i once created a power vs. cadence graph on my computer for fun.

love this app!

Another +1 for the Wahoo Fitness app! It works well. Although I found the calorie counter to be really, really high.

I looked at Edmondo and was interested until I saw everything that they want access to on my phone. There is no reason that a fitness app needs access to my contacts list. Sometimes free isn't so free after all.

I'll look into Wahoo.

Thanks for the responses.

They probably aren't selling your contacts info to shady sources. They probably ask for that info for the social aspect. I.E., they'll check which of your contacts are already on Endomondo. I think you can still use the app even if you don't give it access to that info.

It is going to need access to your "location" so it can use the GPS features, etc.

I don't know about that. Numerous companies have been outed for selling or otherwise using personal data to up their profit margin, even when their user agreements lead you to believe otherwise. I'm highly suspicious of any apps that require widespread access to phone controls, settings, contacts, browsers, histories etc. that don't have an obvious use as part of the function of the app. GPS and location, no problem if an app like Edmondo tracks elevation, speed, distance, etc. But Edmondo wanted access to somewhere around 15 features of my phone, some of which made no sense. Wahoo needed three all of which had obvious links to the functions I wanted. Not saying Edmondo is crooked, bad, etc. I just like to keep close tabs on who has access to what and why. The last thing I want is for some company or their "partners" to start spamming my contacts (personal and professional) using my name to do it.

I've been using Cyclemeter for 2 years. I use it on my indoor trainer all the time. One just toggles off the GPS and configure it to log indoor trainer. Tracks calories, watts if you have a power meter, speed, time, etc. Fully customizable. I also have the Wahoo app. I have used it, but Cyclemeter is my go to app. Both companies have great service when you're in a jam and something isn't working as it should. I have the Wahoo Blue SC (speed and Cadence) and Blue HR (heart rate). Both I have had over a year, probably closer to 2. Work great.

Update:

I've been using the Wahoo app for a while and am reasonably happy with it. It linked to my Mio HRM with no problem and does a good job of tracking the information I want. I think they are pretty generous with the "calories burned" but so are most apps I have seen, as well as the machines at the gym. For a free app, I give it four out of five stars.
