One year later and ... tracking calories seems to have worked. See my comments in the Weight Loss Club thread.

MFP because it will sync with Garmin Connect. Supposedly it will even push your weight to Connect from a Fitbit or Withings scale.

MFP does apparently connect with Fitbit and a Withings scale ... but I have no interest in either.

I use a Garmin 305 for hiking and such; Garmin 500 for bike workouts. I use an heart rate monitor, but no power meter, so using Garmin Connect to sync wouldn't really help with MFP?

STP
I don't have a power meter either but even without one, the calories that my Garmin 500 estimates (with the aid of HR) tend to trend far lower than that of MFP. Mind you I've only gone about comparing what MFP would say a few times, but both times the Garmin number was lower.

And I couldn't find Housework on there. Housework isn't an hour of intense intervals or anything, but you're still up and a bit active. So I added it with the lowest "calories burned" amount I could find on other sites.
I know you don't use a smartphone, but on my iPhone there is a "Health" app that tracks steps and staircases, and my My Fitness Pal is set to receive data from the Apple Health App. Certainly a lot of housework involves steps and stair-climbing. I don't know how you would model cooking ("JMA" just messing around versus "CCP" competitive chef practice" ?) as a physical or athletic activity!

Anyway, congrats on trying MFP. I just re-started my account after finding that Argus does not measure up.

I only entered housework once and that was on a day when I was not only doing housework, but I was also unpacking boxes and moving things around etc. etc. for about 4 hours one evening. Any other housework I've done since then I've just considered bonus calories burned ... not counted.

I've found MFP to be the easiest calorie tracker program I've used, and I have tried several. All the others, I was sick of them after 3 weeks, but I've actually hung in there with MFP for a full year. And I've lost weight.

I have used fitday for 12 years. Its free. My fitnesspal is better because you dont have to manually enter your food if you have a smartphone and the nutrition facts. The only reason I havnt switched is well, because of the 12 years worth of custom foods I have stored. Give it a try.
