Tri Newbie Question

Doing the Dewey Beach Sprint Tri (my first) in September (1/2 mile open ocean, 16-mile bike and 5k run). Water temps will be warm enough for no wetsuit, but I was wondering whether you guys go with just shorts and a singlet or one of those one piece jobs. Are there any advantages, disadvantages. I am leaning towards the one piece, but do people wear those when they are not going to be wearing a wetsuit over it?
Thanks in advance...
A

You're going to get several answers. I personally like the one-pience suits. Guys like MHR do not...although his reasons seem to be for comfort in 1/2 IM & IM events. For sprints and international, I think they are great but it all depends on what you prefer.

Good luck in your event and come back and tell us how you did!!!

Either will work fine. It comes down to preference. If you are going without a wetsuit, use something that you can swim in. A tri top or one piece. A singlet w/o a wetsuit not the best idea. And, putting a top on while wet is tough.

One piecers are nice because you don't have to do any changing in transition. I note that my wetsuit leaves a lot of black marks on my one piece suit. Others seem to have the same problem. I personally find speedo briefs with a top to be the most confortable, although not many wear these any more. I find the speedos to provide more comfort and support for the male parts. The one-piecers are a bit uncomfortable in this regard for me.

cjbruin - you are correct sir, I am not a Tri-suit fan (but do perfer the Speedo Fastskin - Knee Skin if I can't wear a wet suit) but then again I don't do sprints so I would not be a good person to ask. Yes the fastest T1 would be "no change".
