Help! Bike FIT or BUY Bike...which is first
Whats the process to buy a bike that fits?
The two I've narrowed it down to (on my own) are Kestrel Talon 52cmand Litespeed Bella (size M) (a female specific setup). Ive ridden each at LBS (the talon I road was built up as Tri...though right now, i'm looking for road..so was hard to get a 'real' feel for road version-but still felt 100xs better than my old bike).
A fit comes with bike purchase the bike at the LBS-THAT I can understand. There's a FIST certified bike fitter at the LBS who I'd like to have do my fit - and am open to recommendations to get the right bike (there may be another that would work better...Im open to it!).
I called LBS to 'schedule a fit' with this guy...and was told I should BUY the bike first, then do the fit (to fine tune it) for free. so confused. Was told to come in and the guys on the floor could help pick a bike--finding the right frame size is pretty easy--then the fit could be done once I picked one..at the same time, in about 30-45 min. hmmmm.....
When I was in to try out/ride some bikes...I didnt feel the person helping me had the best knowledge on guiding me. Im sooooo wanting to make an investment in something thats best for me...so I can carry on w/ training and move past sprint tri's into longer Oly. distance, poss. more. Most of all, I want it to be a great fit. Problem is, in my area, there is only 1 certified Kestrel dealer/LBS....this particular shop...and one FIST certified bike fit person...at this shop.
Im 5 6 1/2" female...looking for road bike that can be changed to tri w/ clip on aero's and forward seat post after several months and several base miles down the road. Because much of my riding w/ be w/roadies...and Im working on base right now...Im leaning toward road bike.
These are my confused thoughts....help! $2500 is an investment for me...and I want to make the best choices.....the weather has been perfect for riding..Im getting antsy to get out!!
Appreciate your advice!!

As long as they are both experienced fit people. I wouldn't worry about which certification they have.
I agree with the LBS. You should be able to get close enough to decide on a bike and they will do the full fitting when you purchase the bike. I did the same thing in April.

I thnk what you are confused on is that you do the fit on the EXACT bik eyou will be riding(the one you will buy before hand). So get the bike that best suits your needs/wants, and then get there free fit done. Ask for the fit to include a follow up fit, like 2-3 weeks after(depending on how much you ride) so you get settled into the bike and can figure out anylittle thing that will be wrong with the fit.
