Training question ??

I'm training for my first Olympic distance Tri in Sept. I can do the distance ok for cycling and swimming, but I'm having trouble with the run due to IT band pain. My question is, should I just continue training with distance and volume in mind, or should I be doing intervals and other types of training ? I have 2 kids and fulltime work so time is an issue. I really just want to finish, but a respectable time would be nice.

First is to maintain aggressive treatment of the ITB problem. Then just go about covering the distance. There will always be time for a new PR later. Your first is always a PR.

Definatly get the ITB checked out, see either a sports physiotherapist or a chiropractor, or a doctor. Check into ART, i got it done to me after a race yesterday, IT feels great, unlike normaly after a race.(ART-Active Release something)

I have been seeing an ART therapist for almost 2 years now. It rocks for prevention and treatment. She is also a pro triathlete so she knows what we go through.

Agreed. Just get in the distance (don't increase more than 10% per week). Keep turning them over and you'll be fine.

Do you know anyone in the Des Moines, IA area? I too am dealing with ITB issues, and i'm not having any luck ridding myself of the problem.

Next week will be my first appt for some IT Band massage. Did you notice immediate relief? How often do you get the treatment?

I don't know anyone in IA so I am glad you found someone. As far as how long it will take there are a lot of variables. How long has it been damage and how sever the damage is.
