I WON! I won... omg I WON!
https://www.duathlon.co.nz/04Twilight.html (scroll down to short race results)
I won a Duathlon! and its my second ever! I had my first (5km/21km/2.5km) on thursday, then a 16km TTT this morning followed by a sprint Duathlon (1.5/12/1.5)
I'm pumped!! Just thought I would share.
I looked at the results for the last race, and figured I needed top 5 in the run (I suck at running) then an awesome bike split, then hold on during the last run. Well I managed to do this, and did it without aerobars like the guy in third who was my best rival for the bike split...... I'll use them next time and hopefully get an even greater lead in the cycle.

I'm still shocked..... I'm gonna do some run training and use aerobars next race (maybe even have a tri-spoke) which is in a month's time. This is more fun than schools cycling champs...

Race your heart out, congrats.
(champaign
bottles, babes etc.)
How was the cool down? Summer racing must be dangerous with x-treme body temps.

Yup... I was relying on mostly my cycling CV endurance! I have a month to prepare for next race, with cycle road racing and TTTs on other weekends leading up - that'll keep my bike speed up, with some running during the week.
Anyone have any pointers as to how to run things in transition? I came 4th off the first run, and was 10th onto the road (a few of the younger guys didn't have to swap shoes)...the transition was on a field that was a little bit muddy. I just swapped shoes and ran in my cycle shoes on the grass.
Yes it is cold around here.... we are starting to get frosts and fog! That morning I raced a TTT beforehand and was wearing leg and arm warmers, which I took off right before the Duathlon.
Anyone else run with their gloves on? I hate riding without, and didn't want to waste time putting them on. They came in handy to wipe sweat on the last run too.
Peace out!

Just to let you all know, I won my last duathlon in the series. They missed out the results for the top 2 in my race, so I don't know splits but I had a solo bike course ride of less than 2minutes slower than 5 guys who were working together over the same distance, on the long course (2/12/2/12/2 grand prix) I did 2/12/2. all in KM.

Awesome!
Although you are kind of cheating by doing the short course...
...just kidding!
In an earlier version of that series many moons ago I was once leading the race with only ONE kilometer to go, then Terrenzo Bozzone passed me... oh well, at least I beat his brother! Although I think I did win one of the other races in the series, place more minor placings. Good fun they were!
Hmm... when I'm looking at the times I think that I ought to give it a go again next season, those running times are very soft!

Congratulations, I know the feeling. I placed second in my first ever road race. Gives you the motivation to keep improving, doesn't it? Enjoy and savor.
