Well my LBS only carries one series of saddles and a few random tri saddles, so I had to go out on my own in search of a new saddle. Well I started with the top tri stores, got to a well respected tri shops website. Call them up and ask about the one concern I had about the SLK.
Whats the first thing they do... You should try _____ saddle. The saddles are damn near the same but one costs $100 more and weighs 40 grams less. I asked why, and all he could tell me is "it's way better", I explain that the saddle he is recomending is wider(which I don't want cause I'm just a little guy) and that the saddle I'm looking at has gotten great reviews on relieving numbness(my problem). He replies "well this other one is still way better".
I know triathletes love gear but I don't always want "the best", especially since there is no best with a saddle. It's individual and the saddle I picked out answers my needs as best I can tell, so they might as well help me with my choice as best they can.

tell the guy to go eff his hat....Saddles are finiky. Like you said, the most expensive is usualy not the best for you. You need one that fits you, then you can narrow it down once you know the shape you need(wider, narower, more/less padding, ect.)
