New biker - improving speed

I have more of a running background, started biking and swimming this year since I got interested in triathlons. I did my first Sprint on my hybrid bike, and it wasn't bad, and now I'm getting ready for my first Olympic in July. Tomorrow I'll pick up my first ever road bike (Cannondale CAAD8 fitted for triathlons).

So far, my biking workouts have consisted simply of longer and longer rides... my longest was 28 miles. I had a few hills (as much as you can find on the Jersey Shore). But now...

What are the basic workouts for bikers? In running, I have long runs, tempo, speed work.. are there equivalents in biking? How do you guys usually structure your bike workouts? How do you train for hills?

Thank you,
Chris
