Ah, the choices we make sometimes.

The other day, while cleaning up the garage from the recent move, I came across my Ironman Stealth wetsuit. Last year at this time(around 8-27-06 to be exact), was the last triathlon I ran. As a matter of fact, it was the last time I swam or ran. My first daughter was born on 9-11-06 and I decided that I wanted to concentrate more on cycling and moving up to Cat 3, so I only trained on the bike. That, and it was easy to ride the trainer while she slept as opposed to finding time to swim and run.
The race went okay, although it was 2 days past my daughter's due date, so I wasn't mentally in it. I was going stir crazy and the race was only 20 minutes from the house, so I got the spousal approval and did it. It went fine with 3rd in AG and 34/220 overall. I have said that I will do a full IM before I am 30(just turned 27), so I have been telling myself to get out and start running and swimming again, maybe just once a week for now. So sitting at work last night I decide to pick out my final races for the cycling season. I looked and looked and didn't find anythin I really wanted to drive that far to. So then I decided to check out the recent results of the local tri scene. Once thing led to another and now I registed for the same race this year.
Granted, it's only a sprint 750m/22k/5k, but when I go out for a20 minute run today and a 30 minute swim tomorrow, those will be the first of each in almost a year. I'm not worried about the bike, and I can chug the run but I guess I have to make it there without drowning first, right? :D

I keep telling myself just to go at my own pace, but unfortunately my pace last year was pretty much FOP. I don't know how I'm going to pace myself.

meh, you've got a kid, compared to that how difficult can a sprint be?

Congrats, welcome back and good luck!

Regarding pace, I usually start out really slow, then taper down after that.

Its all about expectations, since you used to be FOP, you have the skills, its not like your going to need a ton of endurance for 500k, you may fade a little towards the end but I'm guessing your biking will make up for any minute or so on the swim. Did you cat up?

Have fun racing!
