This is the kind of bike that was great in its day but is a little dated. That said, it wouldn't hold you back but it is old, the wheels are no great shakes and they are 650 which limits your options for new wheels and you can't which between road bike and tri bike with them.

Me, I would take a new $1,000 bike or wait until something a little more current comes up on Ebay or CL. You could get an 04/05 QR Kilo/Felt S32 for about the same price.

All based on the big assumption you know what size you need for a tri bike.

i have a road bike. my road bike is a 30lb steel beast that i fixed up and not nearly competitive enough (more like a street bike). this would be my first performance-level bicycle if i bought it. it's more affordable than the entry-level Giant OCR 2, but it is used and old.

you're probably right on the 650c wheelset, but i'm too poor to even think about upgrading. I'm not an advanced rider, so I'm not looking for top-notch.

besides, why do they put 650c wheels on some tri bikes? lighter? Torque explains why they'd be easier to accelerate.
