Garmin Forerunner 205/305, stem mount

Has anyone done this? I have the quick mount kit that lets you move from the wrist to the bike, but the bike mount is only setup for mounting on the bars, or a universal mount that comes off the side of the aerobar. As I race with an aerodrink, and use rather narrowly spaced clip-ons, the stem is really my only available realestate to mount the computer. Anyone else run into this?

Yep. And here's what I did...

Nice! What did you use, a piece of PVC pipe?

You could get the bar mount made for aero bars, and strap it to the stem. Modify the strap if you need to.

I'm in the process of doing just that. Didn't occur to me until after my initial post. I'll post a pic when it's done. So far the whole quick release mechanism looks pretty cool.

Yep. Much easier/safer than having to look all the way back to the stem. (Not to mention that, if you race in an aero helmet, the tail won't be sticking up in the air every time you look back at the stem.)

Very Cool Mick.

Nice lid on the Aerodrink, too, instead of the yellow sponge thing. Where do you get those?

Hmmmm... hadn't thought of that one. will have to see if I can spare a couple of inches on my shorty bars...

The lid is a 55mm lens cap for a camera. There is a molded lip around the bottle opening that the spring-loaded tabs (on the lens cap) snap under. A really big bump (like taking RR tracks at high speed) will sometimes pop it off, but normal riding won't.

There's at least one more custom piece in that cockpit that noone's mentioned yet. I won't give any hints, though!

Is it the little fuzzy, velcro looking things around the aero bars. That's the only thing that doesn't look normal to me, but it doesn't look that abnormal either. That's my guess.

The_Mickstar 01-11-08 11:19 AM

That is velcro. (And, you're VERY close.)

OHHHHH, that's where you mount your aerodrink. That's pretty nifty.
