Best Tri Computer
So I've just recently gotten into the triathlon scene and am now looking for the ultimate triathlon heart rate monitor/cycling computer/running monitor. Right now I use a Garmin Edge 305 on my bike and a polar F11 for monitoring my heart rate while running. I am a pretty big techy, so I'm looking for the end all solution. Ideally, I would like something that can be used through all three sports. The Garmin Forerunner 305 and 405 almost fits the bill, but they can not be used while swimming. I've also looked at most of the polar products, and havent found anything thats quite right either. Any suggestions?

I don't know of anything yet that can be used for that long in the water, and that will still have all of the functionality you get with a Garmin. I use the Forerunner 305 combined with a regular watch. The watch is strictly for time. The forerunner gives me dist, pace, avg speed, and current speed on the bike, then dist, pace, avg pace, and time on the run. Using the two together requires a wee bit of math, but the combo seems to work fine. Just take off the watch as you enter T2 (maybe.5 seconds), and put on the Garmin (another couple of seconds with the bike mount and quick release wrist strap). I'll be surprised if Garmin doesn't soon come out with one that will handle all three though.

I really like the Cateye Double wireless. It mounts to the rear chainstay. The advantage to this is that you can get readings while riding the trainer. Also, its behind the disrupted air behind the legs, so doesnt apply any drag like mounting on the fork would do.

What about the 310x from Garmin? The 305 has the footpod and then the cadence/speed sensor that I think works with the tri based 310x.

I use the Forerunner 305 and have read many many places about putting it in a plastic bag and in your swim cap. Using it this way is not good for racing but you can use it through out your training.

There was a thread about this, but I can't remember where. I guy puts it in his swim cap and can get some decent readings but they were not consistant readings. Maybe it was a blog I read, but I don't remember.

I have the Garmin 305 also, I consider it more of a run computer, personally. Nothing against it from being on the bike, just like having a computer for the trainer.

The 305 works just fine on the trainer with the cadence/speed sensor addition. Or do you mean something completely different???
