Training
I am 16 yrs old and have competed in two triathlons...i am totally hooked and cannot wait 'till the season comes up. I run and swim for my high school teams. I am currently swimming and track is soon to come. I am not really sure how i am going to balance out the training. I will probably average a total of 4 miles each day of track except on days i work on distance. I was wondering if anyone younger had to deal with this. I am hoping my coach will let me cross train on my bike some, and swimming will not be much of a problem, i can always go in the morning to swim. Last year i really did not train much for my triathlons, and i was still decent. I am going to try to work harder and do more tri's this season.

Have a good time!
I'm a teacher at a local school. Remember, you are at the peak of your life. Enjoy yourself. If you are that good without training, just go and race. Spend some time learning and have fun. Why don't you try to get some of your friends to join in? Just remember, have fun.

Why don't you ride your bike to school?

well, i would totally love if i could get my friends into it...but everyone thinks that it is crazy. I have been trying to get people interested into it, so hopefully! And i live really close to the school, maybe a half-mile or so. I have been thinking about morning rides and then parking my bike in the auto shop. I guess i really should not be too worried about training. I know that i can be good without straining myself. I am active year round so as long as i get some bike and swim time in i will fine, i hope ;)
Thanks a bunch! I guess hearing that helps me get my mind in order about this have a good one! |
your track coach is not gonna like cross-training. A couple guys on my track team were gonna do a triathalon, and asked the coach what he thought of cross-training, and they were almost kicked off the team.
if you are a decent track runner, you are there to help the team, you are not helping the team if you are there to just get in shape. maybe if you are actually "slow" the coach won't care, but I wouldn't bet on it. |
